I've only gone and done it!

I've been dithering about buying myself a completely unsuitable car, that I don't need and actually won't drive that much, for ages. I've just ordered it!

There's absolutely no sensible way to justify the decision, it is undoubtedly mid life crisis related and I daresay that's what many people will say about it.

Exciting though.

Gorgeous! That’s my dream car, I hope you have lots of fun driving it.

Bakerfoot · 29/03/2024 12:52

I actually told a male friend who knows a bit about cars and has an old MR2, what I'd done, in the pub last night. I was expecting him to laugh at the midlife crisis, slightly predicable naffness and tell me all the reasons it was a bad choice, but actually he was a bit out out because he'd spent the day looking at them himself and I'd got there it first 🤣

I had an MX5 for 8 years. It made me happy every time I looked at it and I loved driving it. It was also mechanically very reliable and no trouble to own. I hope you have lots of fun with yours!

UpUpUpU · 29/03/2024 13:09

I saw one the other day and it was gorgeous!! Enjoy!

Obviously you will need a navy bag and shoes and maybe a really nice scarf. Possibly a denim jacket too. I wish I'd done it, too late for me now the arthritis means that I could get in but would need a team of strong men to get me out again

c190 · 29/03/2024 13:13

I got myself an MX5 before we were married and had kids etc. purely because I didn't rely on it for work and didn't have to transport kids around etc. was a sad day when I finally had to let it go, 14 years and 2 children later.
I'll get another one one day. So reliable and economical (surprisingly!) to run.

PutASpellOnYou · 29/03/2024 13:14

It's lovely, one of my neighbours has one in navy blue, it's a beautiful looking car.

Cocolapew · 29/03/2024 13:15

Oh it's lovely 😍

Cuppachuchu · 29/03/2024 13:16

It's gorgeous, good for you!
Also, well jealous.

AmethystSparkles · 29/03/2024 13:34

I’m not into cars (I’d buy a camper van if I had the spare money) but that is very nice indeed! I do wish that all cars would be more attractive to look at, preferably in shades of blue and Green rather then grey and white!

UpsideLeft · 29/03/2024 13:36

Lovely car

Sadly too close to ground for me

I like sit higher up so I can see better all around me like a hawk

philosoppee · 29/03/2024 13:42

I am not into cars but I'm into that car! It's gorgeous and I love it in navy!

Figment1982 · 29/03/2024 16:50

Ha ha before I had even scrolled down I knew it would be an MX-5!

10 years ago I did the same dithering OP, and went for it. My beautiful MX-5 is still with me and even the drive to do the weekly shop is a joy (and bonus it keeps me from buying too much as I know I've got to fit it in the boot! 😁).

Enjoy!

Oh yes, and the rule is that you have to wave to other MX-5 drivers! I have been known to do it, forgetting I'm in my husband's car instead 😳

Did you keep a practical car too? I have a newish, modest family car, which I'm planning to keep, but two cars seems the height of extravagance!

I did keep a second car for a while (I have a large dog and didn’t want her muddy feet on my lovely cream leather seats!) but eventually that one failed its MoT so badly it went for scrap and I took that as the Universe telling me I had to just keep my nice car. And I’ve realised the leather seats wipe clean of muddy paw prints anyway.

Your new car is fabulous!

pinkyredrose · 29/03/2024 17:55

Wow, now THAT'S a car!
