How is it possible to fall asleep this quickly

mysparkleismissing · 28/03/2024 22:55

Probably jealousy as it can take me ages to fall asleep

My husband can literally get into bed and fall asleep within 30 seconds. And I mean a 'deep sleep' with snoring (it's probably not a deep sleep with sleep cycles etc)

Just HOW!!!!

I’m like that most of the time. I won’t lie, it’s glorious. And often I don’t recall anything till I open my eyes in the morning.

Dreading menopause fucking with it.

My dh is the same, he says goodnight and will be snoring within the next couple of breaths.

He's awake until about 11.30pm and up just after 5am so his body is probably just desperate for sleep

I seem to have an off switch when it comes falling asleep.
And an on switch when I wake up.
My DH finds this infuriating, as he is the sort of person who isn't entirely sure of his own name, or how to speak, in the morning.

This truly is a super power!

Once I hit my 40s, I became like this. I just collapse & am asleep instantly (after a lifetime of being a night owl, and struggling with insomnia).

I don't always sleep soundly, and I will wake up in the middle of the night but I'm grateful for the few hours sleep at the start of the night!

My partner is the same, he can be halfway through a conversation and just fall asleep! I'm equal parts infuriated and extremely jealous! I need to be the perfect temperature, have had a wee, be completely comfy, have white noise on and it still takes me an hour to fall asleep on a good night 😭

I am the same. My DH can be talking to me and I will fall asleep mid sentence if I'm tucked up in bed. I actually worry that I fall asleep so quickly.

I can do this occasionally. I was once sharing a twin cabin with my best friend on a cruise, I said I’m off to the land of nod now and fell asleep instantly. She still marvels at this!

My DH is the same. Gets in bed, faffs around flapping the duvet and fidgeting for 30 seconds, head on pillow and he’s asleep virtually straight away. .

I’m an awful sleeper so it really pisses me off. It takes me ages to fall asleep and a squirrel only has to fart a mile away and I’m wide awake. I have bouts of insomnia that last about 3 weeks where I manage about 2 hours a night and it makes me murderous that he just falls asleep within seconds.

A 30 year sleep debt! I can fall asleep mid-sentence; two years running in my late 20s I fell asleep in a jazz club on my birthday, with a band live on stage. I don't stay out past my bedtime anymore, because bedtime comes to me whether I like it or not 🤣.

But, I never sleep through. I usually wake at the end of the first or second sleep cycle, and the most I usually manage is 5 hours' unbroken sleep. I also talk absolute rubbish, wake up shouting and kick poor DH, except when I'm dreaming about riding a bicyle, then I "cycle" at him.

So, swings and roundabouts.

I'm the same I'm afraid! Mid-conversation I just fall asleep. My husband thought it was a joke at first. He now realises it's true (and is very envious). However, I feel cheated in the morning as I feel I've been asleep for 5 minutes!

Dh has this skill, he will just be sitting in his armchair and then say I’m going to have a 30 minute nap, then 10 seconds later he’s out for the count! I’m very envious, I’ve never had a day nap unless im sick,

My DH does it too. And moans the next morning that he's had a terrible night's sleep because it took him ages (ie 10 mins) to fall asleep. Meanwhile, I'm listening to podcasts through my headphones for half the night.

DH does this every night- goes to bed 23:15 week nights and up 06:25 am- out like a light in 30 secs every night. I need a quiet hour to myself at night so creep into bed at 12.30am but takes me a bit longer to doze off- but only about 5 mins- I've tried going earlier but then I spend an hour tossing and turning so I stay up. Shared a hotel room with my sister who was amazed I got in bed at 1 am and fell asleep in a minute!

I fall straight to sleep, although since menopause I usually wake up sometime around 4pm and can lie awake for anything up to 2 hours.

I had to share a bed with my daughter from ages of 5 to 7. Often I'd just get in with her. We'd have a chat or a story and she'd say - I'm going to sleep now. There she was instantly sleeping! It was glorious to watch!

I was just so in awe of decision made. Zonk.

DH can fall asleep mid sentence about 10 seconds after getting into bed.
I'm soooooo jealous!!

And then he has the nerve to say he sleeps very lightly. He categorically does not!

I don't sleep quickly but once I'm asleep nothing wakes me

My dad slept through a (big red bell type) burglar alarm going off above his bed, the burglary, my mum getting up and ringing the police... he woke up to the alarm still going off and the police stood at the bed asking my mum if he was a drinker
Mum "no he just sleeps like the dead and so does NC03" (I was still snoring...) GrinBlush

Dh can fall asleep in about 20 seconds. Gets into bed, turns a few times then he's out. Heavy snoring the lot. Takes me a long time to fall asleep, very jealous!

I used to be able to do this, but I have a heart condition that unpredictably gives me heart attack symptoms in my sleep, so bed is no longer a safe space for me and I find falling asleep really difficult.

🤣🤣🤣

DS is like this.
We went to a French campsite when DC were really young. I can't remember what the occassion was but (slightly strangely for a child-friendly campsite) there was a fireworks display starting at around 10.30pm. There were fireworks and cannons going off. The dog outside the caravan opposite was really frightened and went absolutely berserk barking (and later ran away!) We were sitting outside the tent, I immedIately ran into the tent thinking the kids would be terrified. They both slept through the whole thing.

My husband is like this. The sleepy bus comes at midnight, he's gone in about 20 seconds and sleeps till 8am. I do not do any of these things. It's absolutely infuriating. It generally takes me half an hour to fall asleep 😔

@Fizbosshoes yeah when people are "did you hear that storm last night?!"
Um, no I was sleeping Grin
I found mum standing over me once tutting "you and your dad terrify me, I was checking you were breathing"

I'm the same. I'm so tired I'm asleep in seconds. I worry about how tired I am that I should fall sleep so quickly as I read this Dr Mosley article saying if you fall asleep too quickly you are sleep deprived.
