How is it possible to fall asleep this quickly

mysparkleismissing · 28/03/2024 22:55

Probably jealousy as it can take me ages to fall asleep

My husband can literally get into bed and fall asleep within 30 seconds. And I mean a 'deep sleep' with snoring (it's probably not a deep sleep with sleep cycles etc)

Just HOW!!!!

My husband is the same, lucky beggar

I bet those easy sleepers fall asleep on flights or bus journeys too so arrive feeling refreshed while everyone else is exhausted and stressed. It's an absolute gift and something taken for granted by those that have the ability.

I can sleep at will. I wish I could work out how I do it and make my fortune by selling the secret.

decionsdecisions62 · 29/03/2024 01:16

I do this. My friend was gobsmacked on holiday. One minute I was talking to her and the next I'm gone! The trouble is I'm awake now!

mjf981 · 29/03/2024 01:26

I'm the same most of the time. Its great. The only time I have issue is if I'm stressed (usually work related).
However I've started to wake up needing to pee at night which is annoying! Hope this doesn't become a regular thing..

TheScenicWay · 29/03/2024 01:36

I'm like that mostly but that's because I like to stay up
Late. Oops look at the time. But as soon as I get a blanket on me, I fall asleep. I can't even read in bed anymore if I'm under a blanket. Fast asleep before I've barely read 2 pages.

TheScenicWay · 29/03/2024 01:38

@Alalalalalongalalalalalonglonglilong I only fall asleep easily in my own bed. I'm
Such a bad sleeper elsewhere. Holidays are a nightmare for sleeping.

mysparkleismissing · 29/03/2024 16:44

He's literally on his phone so much so blue light doesn't cause him an issue..

Doesn't seem to be connected to my lack of sleep either

He doesn't seem to need a lot of sleep - he gets up early before he needs to cos he's awake so watches TV (he loves tv) that's another post

He's decided to have a nap just now and literally 30 seconds later is asleep and snoring.

At the moment it's taking me an age to fall asleep then awake from 3/4am very unsettled and restless.

I fall asleep that quickly. But staying asleep for me is impossible. I marvel at people who go to bed sleep and just get up. How do y manage to just sleep for that length of time.

GigiAnnna · 29/03/2024 17:04

I normally fall asleep within 5 minutes. If I'm extra tired it'll be a few seconds after I lie down. An electric under blanket and an eye mask helps.

Nannyfannybanny · 29/03/2024 17:08

My DH, is the same, head on pillow, gone. I worked nights for 30 years nursing, completely the opposite.

This is my husband. I haven't even finished adjusting my sheets and he is totally out. He is so lucky!

CMOTDibbler · 29/03/2024 17:20

I can put myself to sleep anywhere tbh - in my own bed that takes a minute usually, but I have slept pretty solidly on transatlantic flights in economy from take off to 'put your seat up' for landing as well - on several occasions the cabin crew complimented me on it as a skill.

NoWordForFluffy · 29/03/2024 17:20

I can fall asleep really easily. Staying asleep beyond the first few hours is something else entirely, however!

DSD9472 · 29/03/2024 17:21

I'd get him checked for sleep apnoea!

I did the above test and scored him higher than he did himself! 2yrs on he has a Cpap machine and has lost 10kg due to not being chronically tired.

DH can fall asleep mid sentence about 10 seconds after getting into bed.
I'm soooooo jealous!!

And then he has the nerve to say he sleeps very lightly. He categorically does not!

Ha. My DH claims he sleeps badly, but he's always asleep when I regularly wake up. 😩

1daughterand3sons · 29/03/2024 17:25

I'm a sleep has soon has my head hits the pillow unless I'm ill.
My 2 year old is the same he's asleep within seconds.
My 6 year old falls asleep within 5 minutes he rocks around and falls asleep.

My husband and dd are terrible sleepers takes them hours to finally fall asleep and then they only sleep for 4ish hours. I don't know how they do it.

I will own up to this. I fall asleep in seconds usually. And can get a good few hours comfortably on a flight/train/bus.

I'm only really awake on any form of transport if I'm the driver or having to look after DC.

I have been known to be already
asleep before the safety announcements and sleep through take-off 😊

Luddite26 · 29/03/2024 18:11

I fall asleep anywhere in seconds. I will sleep the whole way through a whole show at the theatre even sat on the front row it must piss the poor performers off.
And in bed it's as soon as my head touches the pillow. I can have 30 seconds power naps in the car in a lay-by no problem. Used to. Work split shifts so trained myself. You just have to shut your eyes and go to sleep.it is really that simple.

CMOTDibbler · 29/03/2024 18:21

@DappledThings I've done that too, but I don't do my eye mask and ear plugs till after take off so have to wake up to do that and put my seat back (never fear, I always choose a seat at the back of the cabin against the bulkhead so I can recline without affecting anyone else before someone moans). Its like an ingrained reflex to sitting down on a plane tbh

GoingUpUpUp · 29/03/2024 18:24

Yes this is me and 90% of the time I don’t wake until the morning.

I can literally sleep anywhere, anytime, at the kitchen table, in the car, at work given half the chance.

I’m the parent that doesn’t hear the children in the night. It’s not an excuse, I just don’t hear them!

A little while ago I stayed in a hotel with some colleagues. In the morning they were discussing the fire alarm going off, I hadn’t heard it 😮

GalileoHumpkins · 29/03/2024 18:26

I fall asleep easily and stay asleep all night, I was so scared that menopause would eff my sleep up but it hasn't so far.
I can't nap though, I feel awful when I wake up and can't shake the feeling for hours.

Doro371 · 29/03/2024 18:29

Sleeping is my greatest talent! In the second my head touches my pillow, I'm fast asleep. I don't wake at night - or probably I just don't remember - and I usually wake up a few minutes before my alarm. I'm really bad at stuff like eating well but this is the one thing I excel at! 😃
Guess I got it from my mum - she always said she just married my dad because someone had to drag her second leg onto the mattress - she was asleep once the first one had touched the bed 😂
