Any (ex) conveyancers around?

I’ve been offered a job as the main conveyancing solicitor in a branch of small high street practice. The partners seem nice. It’s a 40 minute commute 3 days a week and 1 day WFH.

However, my current job is as a technical specialist for a licensed conveyancers. Client contact is rare. My “commute” is a 10 minute bike ride.

Part of me thinks it would be good to have a change (hence applying for the job) but I’d be stupid to be dealing with the public again wouldn’t I? Plus the targets etc. And being clobbered by the peri-menopause.

Any residential property people want to talk me out of it?

Don't do it!!!! You'll have a huge caseload, it'll be so dull, repetitive, low fee and low reward work..

That’s what I needed to hear @YesThatsATurdOnTheRug

I am currently head of a conveyancing department. I'm good at the job and I enjoy doing something that has tangible benefits for my clients. It is, however, repetitive and stressful and the clients are getting more and more demanding and ungrateful. They have no idea how much work is involved. The question is do you want that level of stress in your life?

Yes. It’s awful. Since lockdown clients are far less tolerant, patient and expectations are higher.

I know you’re all right. Thank you for making me see the light. I last did a standard resi role in 2012. From overhearing colleagues, clients have got much worse.

I have declined the job offer.
