Making memories with teens on a budget

Worried we have left booking a holiday
abroad a little late this year and prices have flown up. Usually wouldn’t mind too much but have a few big things to pay for this year plus mortgage fixed rate is coming to an end so would like to pay some of that off in the hopes of a better deal.
We have young teens so don’t want to miss a year of making memories. Thinking of putting say £2000 to the side as ‘yes money’ for things like concerts/ shows/ theme parks etc and doing more day trips etc( extra to what we usually would do)
Has anyone done this instead of a holiday abroad one year? How did you find it? Do you feel as many memories can be made? What kind of things do you do with your teens?
Love being in the sun and nothing is as enjoyable for me but want to balance out the finances and being sensible with not wasting a year of memories as very aware they may not want to do things with us for many more years.

I think it very much depends on the kids. Some of our favourite memories are of hiking in the UK. I always find interesting hikes with waterfalls or a decent ascent challenge. This doesn’t cost much. But I get that this might not appeal to all. Remember that making memories doesn’t have to be about big stuff. It can be about learning to be grateful for simple things and enjoying family time.
