Washing machine recommendation

Theraininspainfalls · 28/03/2024 07:35

My washing machine has died! I have an old Zanussi that has been brilliant. I don't want some new fangled monstrosity that I can't understand or work. I'm looking for a drum at least 8 kg, the option to have a shorter cycle (I had a Bosch that ran for 3 hours on every wash), easy to clean and maintain and reliable. Good for washing delicates. Any recommendations?

I had a fancy £££ Whirlpool that was so terrible it broke multiple times in the first year and got a refund for it - in the meantime I had bought this as a temporary replacement but it's so useful I'm keeping it. It has a 45 minute full load cycle that I use all the time.

Hotpoint 9kg Washing Machine | White | 1600RPM | NSWA965CWWUKN | AO.com

This NSWA965CWWUKN Hotpoint washing machine has a 9kg drum, a 30-minute quick wash, an eco setting and an Easy Iron function.

It says it has a 30 min cycle too, but that's max 4.5kg load. The 45 min cycle takes the full 9kg.

There is an Eco cycle which I sometimes use overnight (3h55), anti-stain (3h) or the mixed cycle (1h55) if I need longer between loads to give the first load time to dry.

Don't know about delicates but it's pretty good with wool, I've washed jumpers no problem.

Not a Bosch! I had 4 Boschs over ,,5 years (bought one brand new which went wrong in guarantee and then kept being replaced as each replacement also went wrong). I gave up in the end - was fed up receiving brand new rubbish machines.

Just replaced an old Bosch with a Bosch. Am delighted with it - 9kg, 1400 max spin. Regular mixed load cycle is an hour but if you hit the half load button it’s 45 mins. Cottons is a long cycle at 3.5 hrs on 60 degrees but I only use this for towels, sheets etc. The 90 degree cycle is actually a bit shorter. There’s a quick 30 min cycle that I use for small, lightly soiled stuff and cut it to 15 mins it’s only an item or two. Paid around £500.

I'd recommend Miele. But they are hideously expensive.

We have a Samsung and I love it. It cost about £600. Features that I love:

  • super quick cycles. I have some that last 30 mins.
  • a door that allows me to pause the wash and add items that I have forgotten
  • easy to clean/ prompts me when it needs to run a drum clean
  • delay end - I can load the night before and it finishes at the time I programme it to the following morning
  • auto adding of the right amount of detergent by sensing the load (this can be turned off)
  • notifies me on my phone when the wash is done

Got a Zanussi washer dryer. 1600 rpm spin speed. Hardly ever use the dryer bit though.

It has been fine.

Another vote for the Samsung. I have the series 6 and I love it as there are five different length options for each program. Not many machines had that when I was looking.

Don't get a Bosch. The bearings go very quickly and the cycles take absolutely ages. Wish we'd never bought ours.

Ours is a cheap and cheerful Beko. It has a long cycle, but it also has a 28 minute one and a hand wash and delicates programmes. It’s 9kg and you can change the spin speed on any programme.

Thanks, that was my experience too. I hated it.

I've just bought a Hoover h wash 700 and I'm pleased with it so far, can do a quick was in 14 minutes, it has a 10kg load capacity and 1600 spin. The cleaning performance is good and it is quiet. Also came with 6 months supply of Fairy detergent and softener.

Got a Samsung similar to pp. really good. I find the Wi-Fi notifications more useful than you'd think. 👍

I read a review which said the software needs updated constantly though. Is that true? I really don’t want a load of hassle

I've had mine four or so years and don't think I've updated the software

I am yet to have to update my Samsung washing machine and have had it nearly 12 months

I don't have a great record with washing machines. My original Zanussi was a super machine but since then I've had Siemens, Bosch and Candy. My current one is an LG, recommended to me for its longer guarantee. I'd love a Miele but I'd dread spending a fortune for it to die after 2 or 3 years.

Our Miele is great, but then so were the two Boschs we had before that.

Was just going to advise against ecobubble, it's terrible at getting anything clean! Compared to our 15 year old machine which washed amazingly well in comparison.
We are a hard water area in case that makes any difference (we do use enough detergent).

We have a Samsung Evo bubble now too, it is good but a bit noisy. But 100 times better than the many Boshes!
