Ideas for TV and films for DS(12) with broken wrist.

LadyMacbethWasMisunderstood · 27/03/2024 21:11

DS broke his wrist yesterday. He had lots of plans for the holidays, which are now on hold.

Any suggestions for films or series he might like to watch with me (some certificate 15 will be ok depending on the reason for the certificate).

He has enjoyed The Detectorists, Big Bang Theory, Friday Night Dinner, the Kenneth Branagh Poirot films, Knives Out, The Glass Onion, Sherlock, The Mandalorian.

He has recently got a taste for “scary” films and we have watched The Woman In Black and The Others.

We have Netflix and Disney Plus and I’m happy to buy something extra in/subscribe to something else.

Thank you.

Brokenwood. Kiwi cop drama. Funny and a real who-dun-it mystery. 9 series and I love it!

On free to view Drama channel.

Thanks. Will look that up. Never heard of it before.

Mine are older but Brooklyn 99 and Gilmore girls were popular, I’ve not seen either though. One of mine has just binged House, but that might be a bit old. I loved it though.

I also have a thing about Most Haunted, a really old ghost hunting TV series, it is a bit shit though lol. It’s on Prime currently.

LadyMacbethWasMisunderstood · 27/03/2024 21:20

He has watched Brooklyn 99 too. I’ll look at the other 2. Thanks.

He’d probably love Most Haunted.

Has he watched the karate kid and Cobra Kai? Stranger things?

notnowdennis · 27/03/2024 21:24

Shadow and Bone on Netflix

Userxyd · 27/03/2024 21:25

Modern Family
Breeders

LadyMacbethWasMisunderstood · 27/03/2024 21:26

Cobra Kai he has loved. He wanted to watch Stranger Things a couple of years ago and I said no. Might be time now. Thank you. Lots of good ideas. I watch films. But not much TV. But will watch some with him now.

Can't he still hang out with his mates?

Newuser75 · 27/03/2024 21:27

Ghosts
Young Sheldon
Has he watched friends?
How about some of the older films? Ones my son (11) has enjoyed include
Gremlins
Free Willy
Short circuit 1 and 2

LadyMacbethWasMisunderstood · 27/03/2024 21:28

Modern Family is a great idea. I have watched Breeders. Loved it. Might be a bit dark for him though. Actually thinking about it it gets darker after season 1.

The Last of Us
Ghosts

Grendacious · 27/03/2024 21:29

Men in Black
Pirates of the Caribbean
The Hobbit

Howmanysleepsnow · 27/03/2024 21:29

Ted Lasso?

Makegoodchoices · 27/03/2024 21:30

Mine loves Brooklyn99 and also loved The Good Place.

Loubelle70 · 27/03/2024 21:32

Man like mobeen, people just do nothing (netflix both ), this country (bbc)

LadyMacbethWasMisunderstood · 27/03/2024 21:32

He will hopefully be able to hang out with his mates once he has been to the fracture clinic on 2 April and got a different cast. Till then he’s supposed to rest as much as he can and keep it elevated. His mates are great. But not exactly calm and sedentary!

i lovrd Gremlins. Good shout. I don’t know what short circuit is. He has also watched some Young Sheldon. Liked it. But not as much as BBT.

Some really good suggestions. Pirates of the Caribbean is inspired. As is Men in Black. I’ll look into Ted Lasso, Man like Mobeen and The Good Place and This Country.

It's animated but we love Mitchell v the Machine.

My 12 year old has started on Outbumbered (BBC), he thinks it's hilarious.

We recently watched Trigger Point (ITVx) it was good but it gave him some quite vivid dreams.

He likes Bake Off, Bake Off Professionals, Come Dine With Me (all on the channel 4 player).

He's also watching The Simpsons from scratch on Disney+.

What about Father Ted? I know it's old but still funny.

He likes watching Gogglebox for ideas of what to watch. Though the last episodes we watched was over Valentine's which included a This Morning feature on sex toys 🤦😭 I do NOT recommend watching that with your 12 yr old son.... Even Dermot O'Leary looked awkward!

LadyMacbethWasMisunderstood · 27/03/2024 22:10

Mitchell and the Machine and Outnumbered are good calls.

I do not think I can tolerate The Simpsons but I do think that is one that DS might give a go himself.

I shall see if Father Ted is available somewhere. I used to cry with laughter over that.

Simpsons on channel 4 online
also Derry girls but u might think that too old
i I want to try our flag means death with similar aged young un but not got round to it yet

Mydustymonstera · 27/03/2024 22:25

Father Ted all on channel 4 too

SheepAndSword · 27/03/2024 22:29

I was just about to suggest several thoroughly unsuitable ones 😳

I've been watching too many action/thriller/crime ones recently.

Trains, planes and automobiles might be good.
