DS was offered the job yesterday. Told £14p/hr initially, rising to £15 once fully trained. Seemed a bit too good to be true. He's doing a similar role in another High St chain currently, for a lot less.

Anyway, the offer has come in at £11.02. He's assuming mistake and has replied to the HR dept that sent it, I'm not so sure?

That does sound a very high salary for a shift manager. Obviously NMW is going up to £11.44 so I’d assume the shift manager role is about £12/hour from April

No idea about Tesco but I work for coop. The team leaders pay from 1st April is about £13.25 ph. So £14 seems feasible. As a Customer Team Member we are on £12ph.

CeeJay81 · 27/03/2024 17:00

So yea £11.02 is below nmw

idontlikealdi · 27/03/2024 17:07

How old is he?

Sounds too low to me!

Sainsburys shift manager is 14.33 outside of London. Just went up from 13.33

Colleagues are on 12.00 pH

So I'd have assumed the offer is wrong.

Yes, I think the £11 sounds low, but the £14/15 sounds high. Guess we just wait. They were very keen to have him, accommodated an early morning interview around his shifts, the day after they called him and offered the job on the spot.

I’m a shift manager at tesco. It’s £13.28 a hour. Rising to £14.28 in April. £11.02 is the base rate. His manager premium will get added on top each pay period.

Thank you, what's the manager premium?

£2.26 a hour. He can also do his 1st aid training and get a few quid a week extra pay. The same for having an alcohol license for the store.

Does that mean and extra £2.26 when he's in charge of the store?

Thanks for your help. I'm sure he'll get it all resolved. He was so excited to be leaving the current job yesterday and the wind's been taken out of his sails.

That’s for every hour worked whether he is duty at the time or not. On mornings when he is the key holder opening up the store he will also get another premium for the 1st 2 hours of each shift. Bank holidays he will be on approx £15.50 a hour. Unless you are in London the pay will be more.

Marchintospring · 27/03/2024 17:39

The basic is going up to £12 in April.

So from 1 April he'll get £14.28 + £2.26 for every hour he works? Plus extra for keyholding and Bank Holidays? Wow better than he thought.

It appears to me that the offer was for a different role and his should be higher.

Good luck to him!

Congratulations for your dh 😊
