"I met my DH at his engagement party"

Is what a colleague said after a few drinks. She'd been at his engagement party with a friend of his, her BF at the time, met future DH there for the first time, the wedding never happened and a couple of years later they were married.

Then, she tried to back track and said she doesn't usually tell people that story, so I haven't mentioned it since.

I'm dying to know though 😆 How do you make such an impression on someone at a first meeting that they call off their wedding? How do you go about arranging to see someone again when you were bithbthere with someone else?

They've been married more than 20 years.

But did he call off the wedding because of her? Or was the wedding called off for another reason and he started a relationship with her after that?

I met DW at her engagement party. I was the good friend of a relative and was invited as I knew other family members. They divorced shortly after the wedding (nothing to do with me!!) and we got together after the divorce process had already started, and was almost concluded.

I remember my hairdresser telling me that he knew he was doing the wrong thing as he drove to the church to get married. I imagine if he'd met someone at his engagement party it would have jumped at the chance not to get married.

Wow!!

I heard a story once where the Father of the Bride hired her ex to drive her wedding car (!!) and offered them £5k right there and then to go to the airport together rather than her going to the church and going through with the wedding to her fiance.

She turned him down and went through with the wedding, but it wasn't a long marriage!

I knew someone who met her DH at a work course and he was engaged to someone else. He cancelled the wedding and they started dating.

A friend of mine spot her DH across a bar and it was the glint of his wedding ring that caught her eye first. She felt the need to get to know him. Turns out he was in the middle of a separation and hadn't taken his ring of yet. Wouldn't be for me but each their own

I met my DH at my first wedding. He was a guest of my first husband, though we'd never met before. That marriage only lasted a few months, and current DH got in touch to say he was sorry to hear about my divorce. We got chatting, started seeing each other, I fell pregnant and were now 16 years and 5 children down the line.
