How much would you worry if you’d eaten something without washing your hands after cleaning?

DH cleaned the floors and surfaces, so mopped and used surface wipes. Just watched him then turn to the cupboard, get out the bread and make a sandwich and then eat it. Didn’t wash his hands! He laughed and said he wouldn’t even think about it, surely his hands are clean from having done the cleaning.

I’m just thinking of all the chemicals ingested! Am I being ridiculous?

Unless I was cleaning bins/ the toilet or something really dirty then no I wouldn't worry as a one off but then I would generally wash cleaning products off my hands after cleaning. The taste would be my main thought if I was about to prepare food

Just those antibac multi surface wipes and then floor cleaning liquid, Flash probably haven’t looked

I'd wash my hands, but I wouldn't be worried about it if I forgot. You're overreacting. And unless you buy nothing but organic fresh whole foods, you're likely to be ingesting a load of chemicals in your food anyway.

It wouldn't occur to me at all 🙈 I've cleaned my whole house today, bathroom, etc and I didn't wash my hands before making my dinner. I just think they're probably already super clean 😅

If he washed his hands with soap/handwash, he’d be ingesting the chemicals from that.

I normally wash my hand after but wouldn't lose sleep if I forgot.

I wouldn’t worry from a safety aspect- unless I’d just been cleaning something like a loo- but I wouldn’t want the taste of cleaning products on my hands so would wash them before eating.

Hand soap rinses off without leaving a residue, but eating a sandwich or crisps after using an antibacterial wipe would taste horrible!

I'd be way less worried if it was after using cleaning products, at worst there could be a soapy tasting residue I suppose but unlikely enough to burn through your organs.

I worry more about transmission of bacteria/viruses, but I have diagnosed contamination OCD - I actually washed my hands 7 times in the kitchen earlier, between various stages of making lunch. DH counted. 😳

I'd generally wash my hands, but the fact you noticed DH do that is very weird. And stop using those wipes, they are appalling for the environment. Get some washable clothes.

His hands are clean, so I wouldn't worry about that. And presumably they didn't smell too strongly of chemicals, or he'd have washed them. So... they're fine.

I ate something with my hands after being on the Tube for an hour recently (and holding various poles and escalators). Now that did give pause for a moment, while I resigned myself to getting ill 😂 But... I didn't. I'm fine. Our stomachs can deal with a lot.

If he didn't throw up in the next half hour after eating I'd say he's OK.

Gosh it wouldn't occur to me to even notice or think of this. Honestly, i'm not sure if I do wash my hands after touching cleaning products. They are already clean!
