The Sending Of Easter Cards

TheSquareMile · 27/03/2024 11:34

I send a small number of cards at Easter to a few relatives and friends, perhaps half a dozen or so. I send e-cards to perhaps 3 or 4 other friends.

I've noticed that more shops are stocking Easter cards, John Lewis has quite a few, W H Smith too.

It still seems to be a bit of a niche thing, though.

Are any other posters sending or receiving Easter cards?

I send 2 and receive 2 every year

caringcarer · 27/03/2024 11:38

I never send any. My MiL always sends one. She's big on cards and sends them at every opportunity.

TheChosenTwo · 27/03/2024 11:39

MIL is the only person who ever sends us one!

Yes, I always send them.

MrsSkylerWhite · 27/03/2024 11:40

No because we aren’t religious.

YourFogLightsAreOnTheresNoFog · 27/03/2024 11:40

I never send any now but I do miss my one from my lovely Grandma.

It's an opportunity for them to sell more stuff. Commercialisation, certainly not a mark of increased religiosity!
My DM sometimes sent an Easter card.

BrothersAndSisters · 27/03/2024 11:50

We get one from a woman who we used to live by who is religious. We don’t send any. It’s just about chocolate eggs and seeing friends in our house. 😬

TheFlis · 27/03/2024 11:52

We send one to DH’s aunt who is quite religious, she really appreciates it. I wouldn’t send them en mass like Christmas cards though.

Blackcats7 · 27/03/2024 11:53

My elderly aunt (now sadly gone) used to send them but she was the only person I have known who did.
I thought it was a generational thing that was dying out tbh.

dudsville · 27/03/2024 12:03

I don't think it's niche, I think it's religious. I presume some christians would be more likely to send them.

AlpineMuesli · 27/03/2024 12:10

I've noticed far more Easter decorations and Easter trees available to buy as well.

Easter trees? The only 'tree' I remember in the Easter story was the cross. Confused

If people want to waste money on an extra commercialised holiday that's up to them but I'd have thought the only 'Easter decorations' would be eggs and daffodils etc made by primary school kids.

Yes, I've noticed that too.

Lakeland has started to do far more items for Easter than it used to, for instance.

It’s almost as if shops want to sell a load of old tat and invent a new “tradition” to make more money or something. Grin

I have never sent or received an Easter card in my life (brought up Catholic). Then again I don’t send Christmas cards any more either.

Ah see we've always had easter trees, since living in Germany in the 80's! Been going on for centuries over there. Now
