How on earth do you build yourself back up?

I’m 2 years into parenthood and I’m fatter than I’ve ever been, my back is shot and I can’t go a month without getting horrifically ill. I know I need to “build my reserves” but I’m genuinely struggling to see how?

During the brief windows where I’m not sick or in excruciating pain I do fairly well at serving up slow cooker meals packed with veg and fitting exercise in between looking after my toddler… before I'm swiftly put back in my place by another illness or injury.

This has been going on for almost a year now where I’ll start feeling a bit healthier and lighter (mentally, I’ve given up looking at the scales) when another thing strikes and I’m desperately treading water again.

I guess I just want to hear if anyone has experienced similar and if you actually made it out the other end a functioning human?
