Having a new kitchen but nobody seems to factor in cookery books. I have loads. Feel
free to share a pic.

I have a bookcase in the kitchen, and overspill on the living room bookshelves.

I use eatyourbooks.com to keep track of them and search them easily to make sure I actually use them!!

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 26/03/2024 21:32

Bookshelf in the kitchen too.

Sag3andOn1on · 26/03/2024 21:34

Wheee is your bookcase in your kitchen? Is it a big kitchen?

I've put a big seagrass/wicker basket on top of my cupboard and store them in that. It looks nice too!

I have three Blush bookcases in the kitchen. One is next to the door in a sort of dead space which wasn’t big enough for another cupboard. The other two are next to the sofa away from the main cooking area.

In the two previous places where the kitchen wasn’t big enough for a seating area, I’ve had shelf on the wall (again the space wasn’t big enough for a cupboard but could fit a few shelves) and shelves built into the kitchen island (took away the option of a breakfast bar though as couldn’t have bar stools fit too).

TheSandgroper · 27/03/2024 09:45

I have cupboards over my fridge and oven which has a shelf each and another metre or so in my pantry. Some in the cupboard are stacked on their side as they are in between sizes. I have magazine holders for my few BBC Good Foods and my Australian Women's Weekly books.

So about 2.5m in total.

IKEA billy bookcase with doors in the kitchen

Emmz1510 · 30/03/2024 17:46

In my small kitchen the few cookbooks I have are on my windowsill! I do have a large Welsh dresser in the living room where I could put them, but i like having them to hand in the kitchen and I like how they look in there

mathanxiety · 30/03/2024 18:11

Billy bookcase in the dining room/ living room, a few in other bookcases, and the ones i use most frequently on an open shelf in the kitchen.

43ontherocksporfavor · 30/03/2024 18:14

We had a Howdens kitchen 5 years ago and I asked the carpenter we hired to fit it to make a book and drinks unit .

43ontherocksporfavor · 30/03/2024 18:17

I also have a large breakfast bar that is deep and I have some books on there too. What about open shelving?

TragicTess · 30/03/2024 18:19

Bookcase on the end of the island

ChessieFL · 30/03/2024 18:19

We have a breakfast bar we never use so the space where the stools go has been filled with two short bookcases.

curlywillow · 30/03/2024 18:20

shelf in the kitchen under the tv

ASighMadeOfStone · 30/03/2024 18:20

Mine aren't in the kitchen but in the living room.

Shinyeyes · 30/03/2024 18:21

Bookcase in a dead corner. I love it. It makes me feel all Nigella.

soupfiend · 30/03/2024 18:22

Ikea red dresser with glass doors and Ikea green dresser with glass doors. WAs just sorting out the books this weekend. Theres lots of rubbish in the bottom of the dresser (I think its called a dresser), which I need to move to elsewhere and once I do I will have more space

soupfiend · 30/03/2024 18:24

Forgot to say though that they travel upstairs to bed with me a lot so they tend to be scattered around the house.

Riapia · 30/03/2024 18:25

A MN kitchen with out a bookcase.
😂😂😂😂

Dontdeclutterthemagic · 30/03/2024 18:25

On the Welsh dresser. A few I keep just for reading, not cooking, are in the general bookshelves in other rooms.

I do have a rule - if I don't make at least 2 recipes from a book regularly- it has to go. Two year grace period for new books where I may not have hit my stride with them. I am not allowed more than fit on my (approx 4ft) shelf. I thought this would be really hard when i started it, but it actually worked really well and stopped me feeling guilty about all the ones I never opened.

fluffycloudalert · 30/03/2024 18:34

The ones I use most often are in the bookcase in the living room. Random others that I might look at occasionally are on a shelf in the spare bedroom. Our kitchen isn't really big enough to keep any in there.

wendywoopywoo222 · 30/03/2024 18:37

Mine are
In one of the kitchen cupboards.

KottuKottuKottu · 30/03/2024 18:56

Bookcase, freestanding in a dead space holds about 120 books, none of which are mine, I burn water....in 4 houses now with different sizes kitchens. The rest, there are many are in another bookcase in the spare room

Gunz · 30/03/2024 21:51

I have a shelf in the kitchen. However I did 'cull' a load and kept the ones I actually used. (I was given load of Nigella and tbh unless you have a similar size pantry to her - none of her recipes are going to work for the normal family)

SillyTizer · 30/03/2024 22:56

Mine all go on the top shelf of my walk in pantry
