I got scammed - random engagement ring in the post

I received a random cheap engagement ring in the post today. So confused as I didn't order this! They had my name and address correct. I googled it and it's happened to other people, Reddit suggested it's a review scam? But this didn't make a lot of sense. I dug around and realised what it was. A few weeks ago I got sucked in by a fake outlet website ad on insta. In my defence it was 4am and I was in the grip of insomnia. I placed an order coming to £17 including shipping, then googled the website afterwards like an idiot to discover it was a scam. I wrote off the £17 as a lesson learnt.
basically the scam is that you order something you want, they provide a tracking number, and deliver you a 50p Chinese mass produced worthless ring. You can't do a chargeback because the tracking shows the item was delivered. Be aware of too good to be true outlets advertising on insta! Always check you're on the genuine web page. It was quite a fun mystery for a few minutes though and distracted me from a pretty bad day!

Had something very similar happen to me, ad on Facebook for a kids toy I thought would be cool for Christmas. What came was a bunch of foam alphabet shapes and numbers.

Luckily I paid with PayPal and was able to show what I ordered wasn't what I received. It took a little while but PayPal issued the refund.

Even if the item was delivered you can initiate a chargeback and tell the bank that you paid for goods or services (your £17 order) and received something else (the ring).

This happened to me at Christmas. DSIL sent me a link to a dog bed for humans (giant beanbag) on Facebook that my niece apparently wanted and I promptly ordered it for £40ish

6 weeks later a small grey scarf was delivered and then I realised! Will never order anything from a link like that again!

Same here - ad on instagram for well known brand sale - too good to be true but late night a few wines and bam in fact I placed the order twice because I didn't get an email confirmation the first time - a few weeks later I got two packets with Rayban sunglasses completely randomly and finally figured out what it was - "brushing" I think it's called

When I didn't receive the goods I put in a claim for the charges and instantly got a refund. Ultimately you didn't receive the goods you ordered so should get money back.

Happened to me years ago and was also a cheap ring that I got!!

A chargeback can be done as you have not received the items you ordered.

Same thing happened to me. Speak to your bank/building societies
