Anyone got a ring doorbell? Which one should I get?

I really don’t know much about these things, I just know I need to be able to see who is at the door before I answer. We are having trouble with a nuisance neighbor. I suspect I just need a basic model. There’s seems to be lots of different types all different prices. Can anyone recommend any? Also are they relatively easy to fit?

I’ve got the basic one with the battery, rather than the one that needs to be wired in. Love it. Easy to set up.

Great, yes don’t want any complicated wiring work!

I have the basic with battery & bought another for my parents as they live in a relatively high crime area. I swear by mine and may have made a colleague laugh by answering the front door from work . Iwork part time & am disabled so for me it's a godsend. Parents found that simply having it, and puttingbthe stickers in their windows has significantly reduced the issues they were having.

With the basic it's really stick up, connect to internet, download app & done

Oh thank you! I’m going to order one today, can’t wait to get it up and running.

We got a ring doorbell and believe the monthly charges are increasing - maybe check how much?
Our daughter has a blink door bell and it’s just as good and much cheaper to buy.

Have a look at Tapo instead. No need for a subscription. Battery operated just stick it up and it is ready.

We were recommended Tapo by the police when we were having neighbour issues. We have a couple of wire free cameras too.

I've got a blink (Amazon version of ring).

No ongoing subscription, it downloads clips to a USB.

Dead easy to fit & set up 👍

as @JesusMaryAndJosephAndTheWeeDon mentioned, currently on offer for £99

I just recently switched from a ring to a eufy, quality feels roughly the same to me but no monthly fee

MissyB1 · 26/03/2024 14:38

Oh I did know about Eufy! Need to do more reading!

You don't need to pay a monthly fee for Ring though - only if you want to have videos stored. We have one (the battery one, with a chime) and don't pay anything. I just spoke to the postman (from work) and asked him to put my parcel behind the gate!

MissyB1 · 26/03/2024 15:19

Hmmm I’m think now perhaps I should pay to store the videos, just because we are getting this because of a nuisance neighbor and could potentially need evidence at some point. I see you can pay a one off fee of about £50 so not too bad.

Tapo allows you to save the video on a memory card without subscription. You only need the subscription to store on the cloud.
