'She wears the trousers'

Do you understand what that means?

It's an old saying that means the wife is the one in charge and makes the decisions.

I have encountered a whole bunch of people who have taken it literally and think I am running a woman down for wearing trousers! 😩😂

It’s a well-known, though obviously old-fashioned and misogynistic phrase. What age were the people who misunderstood it? It probably makes less sense in a world where virtually all women regularly wear trousers, and there’s no longer any association with maleness and authority.

I’d probably wonder more about why you were using the phrase, to be honest, and whether you had some reactionary ideas about gender.

It was said as an obvious joke but people thought I meant that she shouldn't be allowed to wear trousers! Bizarre!
