Second little girl on the way and these are the top 2 names. Help please!
Also need middle name suggestions.
She will be a sibling to Imogen.
Similar name suggestions also welcome!
Thank you! Smile

Eloise is likely to be misheard as Louise, but can be shortened to Ellie which I like. Amelie is pretty, but what would that get shortened to? Millie? Her name will get shortened whether you like it or not, so choose the one you like the shortened version of best.

(Having said that - my adult daughter is called something which bears no relation to her actual name.... It just evolved!)

The only thing with my daughter being called Amelie is being constantly called Amelia or Emily as those names are more common.

My child (Eloise) never gets misheard for Louise so I wouldn't worry about that

Both lovely names, but Eloise has a song named for her! (Barry Ryan)

I love Eloise and the song by The Damned.

Soowoo · 26/03/2024 09:14

I think Amelie will get called Amelia as that name is so popular. I love Eloise.

IvorTheEngineDriver · 26/03/2024 09:33

Eloise. I know an Amelie. Nobody ever spells her name correctly.

yetanothernayme · 26/03/2024 09:44

@Clawdy I love that song, also the version by the Damned and there is also a 60s song by the Hollies called 'Dear Eloise'.

I wanted to call my DD Eloise but DH vetoed it, it is her middle name though. I used to sing the songs to her as a baby.

OP - Team Eloise here! I work with young children, and I would say Amelie is slightly more popular if that matters to you at all.

Lightningrain · 26/03/2024 09:46

I love Eloise.

I like Amelie but the little Amelie I know often gets called Emily when people mishear her name. Her mum says she also gets people saying Amelia when they’ve only seen it written down.

Colinfromaccounts24 · 26/03/2024 09:54

I love Eloise. Amelie is OK but I am bored of it as there are quite a few around, combined with all the Amelias it feels like every other girl is called it. I'm in the southeast, might be different where you are.

Thank you all for your suggestions and thoughts! Definitely feel like I’m leaning towards Eloise based on what has been said.
Super helpful, positive and much appreciated. I will have to look up the song!

Amelie

LlynTegid · 26/03/2024 17:59

Amelie goes better and probably likely to be spelt correctly or not asked how to spell it more often.

Strawberrycheesecake7 · 26/03/2024 18:01

Both are lovely. Maybe Amelie if I had to choose but there’s not much in it.

Isseywith3witchycats · 26/03/2024 18:06

Both pretty names and a short middle name like rose or jade would go with either

Sunnnybunny72 · 26/03/2024 18:14

Eloise Catherine
