Smart bulbs without Alexa

Definitelylivedin · 24/03/2024 16:33

I'm looking for some way to turn the side lights in my living room. I don't want to use Alexa or any other voice operated system. Just 3 or 4 bulbs with some sort of remote control or app. Does anyone have any recommendations?

Hue has an app and you can get switches. I use the switches, Alexa and the app depending on what I want to do.

We have timers for some of our table lamps. We never have to think about them, even when we're away.

We have Tapo plugs and an app on our phone to turn them on/off. They plug into socket, then the lamps are plugged into them. Really handy and easy.

We have the Phillips bulbs and the hue app on phone. We do also use Alexa but you can do it all from the app if you’d rather

I like the look of the Phillips one, and you can get a switch. More expensive than I expected though and I'm not sure if I need a hub as well as a switch.

we have Nooie app which can use to control lots of different brands of smart bulbs/ switches. We also have a Google home (like Alexa) and they appear in that app too

LaWench · 25/03/2024 06:16

We have tapo bulbs and use alexa but you don't need the voice commands. The alexa app is really good for setting up automatic routines, like coming on at sunset and off at midnight. You can also switch them on/ off, dim or change the colour directly with the app.

We use Hue bulbs and haven't ever had an issue with them. Simple to control from the app.

I also have a few Amazon smart plugs on table lamps. They use the Alexa app but don't require an actual Alexa or voice control. They basically function the same as the Hue bulbs- just go in the app and tap the plug on and off.

We use Philips hue, and operate them through the iPhone home app

Mykittensmittens · 25/03/2024 08:10

I have these https://amzn.eu/d/0BNSuOl

They work from an app on my phone where you can also schedule routines or manually switch on and off. They were very useful for Xmas tree lights too!! And super cheap.

advertises as use with Alexa etc but you don’t need to link them to that - the app does it all.

Try Tapo, we don't have the bulbs but have a couple of plugs for lamps. I use Google home with them but DH prefers to just use the app.

Definitelylivedin · 25/03/2024 12:01

I've gone for the Tapo plugs. Much cheaper than the Hue bulbs and I can use them for other things if I want.

Thanks all.
