Cervical Screening Northumberland

Hi,

I’ve name changed for this but I was wondering if anyone knew of any sexual health clinics for cervical screening in Northumberland. I’ve received the letter for my first smear test but my GP only has appointments Mon-Fri and I work 8-7 so they’re not suitable for me. Additionally as I was previously raped I would prefer to bring someone with me such as my partner which would require a weekend or late evening appt too.

Does anyone know of any services I could access or alternatively could I take the sample at home for a private service? I am a vet so not medically trained in humans but also not coming at it from 0 knowledge or understanding of the subject if that makes sense .

I completely understand the importance of the smear test and I will be getting it done despite fears but I can’t see how I can access a GP appointment without taking a day of holiday (not allowed at my work, must be in 2 week blocks 😩) and my partner also taking a day of holiday. I am more than happy to pay privately for the convenience of a weekend appt.

Can anyone help?

You are aware that they only look at the cells if you test positive for high risk strains of HPV?

If you test negative the cells go in the bin without being looked at.

Given your circumstances you might want to consider just doing a HPV test before going any further.

Yes, I’m aware they do that now @dreamfield I will have a look to see if there is a home test for this

Northumbria has this clinic https://www.northumbria.nhs.uk/our-services/sexual-health-services from a quick google search.
Private healthcare such as BUPA will also offer well woman appointments.
Can you check with your practice whether they run any occasional weekend clinics or have a reciprocal arrangement with any other practices?

There's a drop in clinic at Blyth Comnunity Hospital and Shiremoor on certain days. It's called the One to One clinic . You just turn up and wait your turn . They can do smear tests there .

I think that’s the one I linked to above. It appears the hours for the ‘turn up and wait’ clinic are currently when the OP is working.
