Feel shocked by Moscow attack

I feel shocked by the horrific attack in Moscow and loss of some many innocent lives. And at the same time surprised by the lack of widespread solidarity and support to its victims. We were Je suis Charlie, stand with Paris, Ukraine and Israel, victims of Boston marathon bombing etc etc. We changed our avatars on FB, posted messages on social media to show solidarity and support. Yet, nothing for Moscow. I’m not naive, I do understand that Moscow is the capital of the state, we are not friendly with anymore, but at least we (as individuals) could show some empathy and solidarity to the victims of the terror? When does the cost of human life and showing solidarity to the victims of terrorist attacks become so dependent on politics and driven by social media PR campaigns?!

I really don’t think you can compare the attacks in Moscow with what’s gone on in Ukraine. In fact that’s actually pretty tasteless.

FrancisSeaton · 23/03/2024 20:21

You can show empathy/solidarity if you wish.
It's awful for the loss of life just as it's awful so many people in Russia are being used as cannon fodder and losing their lives because their president is a dangerous sociopath

Ursulla · 23/03/2024 20:21

There was a bunch of pretty disgusting comments on twitter last night.

For certain people, when they say "stop the killing" they just mean "stop some of the killing".

TheThingIsYeah · 23/03/2024 20:22

Does lighting candles and singing Don't Look Back in Anger actually deter terrorism? I expect the Russian response to be somewhat more robust.

NigelHarmansNewWife · 23/03/2024 20:24

I think it was horrific. I also think it was horrific that Putin has said the attackers were fleeing to Ukraine when we know Islamic State has claimed this attack. We also know US intelligence warned Russia an attack of this nature was imminent.

Desdemonadryeyes · 23/03/2024 20:25

Crack on then. Start a social media support group.

PurpleChrayn · 23/03/2024 20:26

West-hating Islamism.

Exactly what Israel is fighting against.

Fannyfiggs · 23/03/2024 20:29

The footage of the terrorists shooting in the concert hall is terrifying, those poor people must have been so frightened.

It's always innocent people who are murdered in the name of religion or to boost a country's male leader's ego. Heartbreaking 💔

Ursulla · 23/03/2024 20:30

Changing your Facebook avatar to Je Suis Charlie doesn't do much to stop terrorism either but people still did it. I'm not expecting any of them to start bannering Ya Moskvitch any time soon though.

MamaWillYouBuyMeAWillYouBuyMeABanana · 23/03/2024 20:32

Can you really not understand?

Literally every single day there is another atrocity happening at the moment, the world is on bloody fire.

There are millions of victims daily at the minute, wtf is changing a Facebook banner going to do?

Everyone I know at the moment has a cause or 2 they are focused on and passionate about and help as much as they can with those, but we don't have the mental capacity to show that level of support for every incident, even though the vast majority of us do feel sympathy for the victims and sickened that it happened.

xyz111 · 23/03/2024 20:33

I suppose "I stand with Moscow" has a very different feel in the current climate. Yes the Russian people are not responsible for the actions of their leader, but it think people feel it's not the same.

Ursulla · 23/03/2024 20:33

The world has always been on fire with atrocities happening somewhere or other.

Ok, fair point about Ukraine. But what about other attacks? Are they not comparable? It’s innocent human lives that have been lost

No need for “stand with Moscow”, it could be any other sign of condolences. It’s just total absence of it that’s too noticeable

Yeah people in the UK don't care so much about Russian dead.

RunningFromInsanity · 23/03/2024 20:37

Unfortunately their leader has demonised the whole race.

I have to admit I was shocked at my lack of heartbreak over the killings. I had to remember that these are innocent people who likely do not support Putin.

And as for Putin trying to suggest Ukraine had anything to do with it, God knows who advised him that was a good idea. All it does is deflect from the horrific attack and remind people of Ukraines suffering.

WinterMorn · 23/03/2024 20:39

Well, skyfly are you banging the drum about all those other incidents you talk about as well? Innocent human lives are lost in horrific, unnecessary circumstances every day. This attack in Russia is truly awful, but I wouldn’t expect to see the ‘usual’ public reaction for obvious reasons. If you are really worried about the Russian people, it will go way beyond this admittedly awful event.

Total absence? There has been worldwide condemnation, including the UK, Europe and the US.

It's an awful attack. Putin is now trying to blame it on Ukraine rather than Islamic State because that suits his narrative and he couldn't care less about the people caught up in it. It's just awful.

Quizine · 23/03/2024 20:43

Putin just wants an excuse to escalate things in Ukraine. I wouldn't be surprised if this was a false flag operation designed to do just that, given that P has said some of the attackers fled to Ukraine.

I'm not sure if those apprehended are Islamic terrorists either. My first instinct was Chechen rebels like the atrocity in the Dubrovka theatre in Moscow where hundreds of hostages were taken and many died.

Either way I am sure the families of those killed don't care who did it right at the moment. It is all very worrying, Putin is so dangerous.

Not just quietly. Openly, on twitter. Gloating about a civilian massacre is a shitty look.

Northernsouloldies · 23/03/2024 20:46

People that can think for themselves can see the tragedy in Russia for what it is.it just hasn't caught on with the thickos that follow every fb trend .

Ursulla · 23/03/2024 20:49

I have to admit I was shocked at my lack of heartbreak over the killings.

And this is why we (humanity in general) can't have nice things.
