Feel shocked by Moscow attack

I feel shocked by the horrific attack in Moscow and loss of some many innocent lives. And at the same time surprised by the lack of widespread solidarity and support to its victims. We were Je suis Charlie, stand with Paris, Ukraine and Israel, victims of Boston marathon bombing etc etc. We changed our avatars on FB, posted messages on social media to show solidarity and support. Yet, nothing for Moscow. I’m not naive, I do understand that Moscow is the capital of the state, we are not friendly with anymore, but at least we (as individuals) could show some empathy and solidarity to the victims of the terror? When does the cost of human life and showing solidarity to the victims of terrorist attacks become so dependent on politics and driven by social media PR campaigns?!

Well, skyfly are you banging the drum about all those other incidents you talk about as well? Innocent human lives are lost in horrific, unnecessary circumstances every day. This attack in Russia is truly awful, but I wouldn’t expect to see the ‘usual’ public reaction for obvious reasons. If you are really worried about the Russian people, it will go way beyond this admittedly awful event.

Yes I do. I helped victims of Paris attacks and worked tirelessly to help Ukrainian refugees. I feel empathetic and I do feel strongly about this attack as well. Sorry to be an empathetic person in this totally mad world, where people forget that every life matters, and not only of certain nationality!

Anyone with any decency or common sense understands that.

Can you really not understand?

Literally every single day there is another atrocity happening at the moment, the world is on bloody fire.

There are millions of victims daily at the minute, wtf is changing a Facebook banner going to do?

Everyone I know at the moment has a cause or 2 they are focused on and passionate about and help as much as they can with those, but we don't have the mental capacity to show that level of support for every incident, even though the vast majority of us do feel sympathy for the victims and sickened that it happened.

I agree; yet many took a minute to change their banners for other recent terrorist attacks!

I'm shocked that anyone would think something like that. Do people think that the civilians in Gaza 'had it coming' for the attacks on October 9th? Or that the people at the festival on October 9th 'had it coming' for being Israeli? I'm horrified.

NigelHarmansNewWife · 23/03/2024 20:54

Kadyrov has spoken out against last night's attack, distancing the Chechens from it.

I haven’t said that I think this! But no doubt there are some awful individuals who do

Same! I think that people lost the plot completely, this is so much hatred nowadays and so little empathy and compassion

Awful for those involved.
Putin spouting about killing of innocent people however whilst killing thousands

GrumpySock · 23/03/2024 23:32

I'm shocked about what happened. Cannot stop thinking about the victims and their families and all the special services involved: firefighters, medics. The place is totally destroyed.
And those videos and testimonies of the survived...It is a tragedy. The numbers are growing every hour. How much time will it take to identify all that got trapped and killed? And will they even name them all? Mothers found hugging their children.
It is devastating.

That’s what I feel too! Thank you so much for sharing

I think it was horrific. I also think it was horrific that Putin has said the attackers were fleeing to Ukraine when we know Islamic State has claimed this attack. We also know US intelligence warned Russia an attack of this nature was imminent.

Puti has been saying that as he wants Russians to believe his lies and get them and others killed in the attacks on the Ukraine

Russia has also had problems internally with certain groups of Russians in the past years.

I felt sorry for those killed and injured but the sick man, Putin turning it into propaganda for his own aims, so sad

skyfly · 23/03/2024 23:53

Ursulla · 23/03/2024 20:21

There was a bunch of pretty disgusting comments on twitter last night.

For certain people, when they say "stop the killing" they just mean "stop some of the killing".

It’s really sickening! Humanity is all what matters to me and I cannot comprehend how some take sides on the cost of innocent human lives. It’s not well regarded to support Russians in this day and age but I feel this is morally wrong not to show compassion after this horrible attack (in my paradigm of life)

I totally empathise with those poor poor families, I live in Manchester and the arena bomb is still raw.
But putin is a psychopath and clearly they didn't have the level of security we all live with as a result

People have shown compassion for the victims, but there is no denying the context here is critical to the nature and volume of people’s responses.

How many people were standing with israel even in the days following the terrorist attacks on 7 October? The hate started straight away and has only got worse

Blueglassfromikea · 24/03/2024 00:30

We are all weary with it all, bombarded from every direction, what about Sudan? Don't see any banners for there either . Most people just can't cope with another catastrophe unfortunately, we are unilaterally overwhelmed 😞

blackice · 24/03/2024 00:38

A number of reasons I think.

There is only so much bad news that people can take in and react to. If we each felt deeply every terrorist attack or school shooting happened, we'd be in a permanent state of grief. People survive by not living like that.

If your concern is about the loss of human life, considee that about 1300 children died today of malaria. Another
1300 will die by this time tomorrow. There won't be any Facebook campaigns about them.

And of course. the attack has taken place in a country that is waging war on its neighbour, completely unprovoked.

Lovepeaceunderstanding · 24/03/2024 00:42

@skyfly I hear you but one can be sympathetic to the victims of terrorism without look at me virtue signalling on social media. People are not (yet at least) compelled to express their revulsion in regard to such things in any particular way, including ones which you may favour.

West-hating Islamism.

Exactly what Israel is fighting against.

Don’t hijack this to push your own agenda. Israel is a settler colonial state !

RightOnTheEdge · 24/03/2024 00:48

I think, i dont know about other people, but that for me it's just that we seem to be bombarded with none stop tragedy in the news at the moment and it's all hard to take in.

On top of already having so much worry in my own life about how to pay the ever increasing bills, and ground down from work and being a single parent.

It's not that I don't care or don't have empathy for the victims, I just feel overwhelmed with life at the moment.

Absolutely, there’s only so much bad news we can process. We can’t pour from an empty cup!

Twokittycats · 24/03/2024 01:07

It’s a shame there isn’t more outrage about this attack!! Every day we hear non stop about Gaza but hardly anything about anywhere else. There are terrible things happening everywhere but the media picks and chooses what they want to portray.

Nat6999 · 24/03/2024 01:12

I can't understand what ISIS have against Russia, I would have thought it more likely Russia would be supplying them with arms & munitions.

srailfonaidraug · 24/03/2024 01:18

As if it wasn't bad enough already for the Russian people, subjugated as they are by such a vile, aggressive and deceiptful thug of a "leader".

Now this...all thanks to the actions of that same leader who doesn't care one jot about those killed and their families and loved ones and is only seeking to make political capital out of this atrocity by falsely accusing the neighbouring country he has invaded of being responsible.

People are being brutally murdered all around the world because of the political gaslighting by rogue governments and their supporting media scum.
