I called 111 today as my daughter has a low grade fever and a nasty rash.
I sent photos to the doctor and she called back to say she can’t exclude measles!!! I feel sick with worry. They have contacted the relevant people to notify them and they will be in touch about a test.
I am beyond worried, she did say it may not be but obviously they have to rule it out.
Does anyone have any experience with measles, especially in young babies 😭😭😭

Has she had her MMR? Hopefully if she does have it that will make it much more mild.

edited to say: ignore me! In my head they had the MMR early, but I’ve just realised it’s not until they’re one!

let’s hope it’s just ruling it out and it’s not.
did they say how long it would be?

Hopefully it's not measles. I'm guessing you don't know of other children with measles you could have been in contact with?

ChocHotolate · 23/03/2024 19:07

Has she got red eyes? Has she got white/grey specks or marks in her mouth? These are both classic measles symptoms

Mine had measles at the same age, she was quite unwell and her temperature was through the roof. She was listless and not feeding for several days. She made a full recovery but I was terrified at the time. Hopefully your DC doesn't have it and gets well soon Flowers

Viral rashes CAN, not always, mimic measles
rashes. If its Measles, it's less likely to enact the serious side effects one reads about, as she's so young.
Hoping it's all OK, OP.
Thinking if you.

NB
If it is Measles, she still needs her two doses of MMR at 13 months and 3 year 4 months.

Thank you, no she hasn’t had the MMR as like you said it’s 12 months, she will be having it of course. She’s all up to date with her vaccines and her next lot are when she’s 1 x

We know of nobody with measles, had no notifications from my sons school etc but in general I’m really not sure

her right eye is red underneath and watering, another reason why the doctor suspects 😥

I’m so glad she was okay, she is feeding okay and seems her normal self apart from being abit more upset than usual. Can I ask what was your daughters rash like? Hers is red blotches but they come and go and change all the time, the main rash is like tiny tiny skin coloured pimples allover her fave which feel really rough. Online it doesn’t say that for measles x

Thank you, I’m really really hoping it’s a viral rash. I’m so worried. She’s up to date with all her vaccines and will of course continue the schedule x

Could be baby measles (roseola) rather than measles itself. Nasty rash and high temperature but nothing like proper measles. I didn't know it existed until ds got it.

GreyDuck · 23/03/2024 20:19

I had measles as a slightly older baby -about 11 months. It was scary at the time for my parents, but I have no lasting effects.
