How much do you spend on groceries per month?

CurryandSnuggle · 23/03/2024 16:45

My family size: 2 adults, 2 children
Food/Toiletries/Cleaning products: £600-650 per month

Interested to know how much you are all spending. We are hardly buying any luxuries and this just seems eye watering. I mean we are spending over £2100 just on mortgage, groceries, childcare and council tax. Let alone all the other bills…

WYorkshireRose · 23/03/2024 16:49

Family size: 2 adults, 1 (5yo)DC, 2 large dogs

Monthly spend for all groceries, toiletries, etc: £900-1,000 (more if including meals out, takeaways, etc)

PuttingDownRoots · 23/03/2024 16:50

1 adult, 2 nearly teens all the time, plus extra adult at weekends.

Similar to you... about £150 a week, including alcohol.

That includes all meals and snacks, children take packed lunches to school and I WFH.

BCBird · 23/03/2024 16:51

Live alone. About 80 pound a week. Don't drink or smoke

Womblingmerrily · 23/03/2024 16:54

5 adults/near adults - about £7-800 per month

AnotherCountryMummy · 23/03/2024 16:55

£700 family of 5 - two adults, two children part time and one toddler full time

HashBrownandBeans · 23/03/2024 16:56

Three adults and three teens fulltime, another two adults at weekends. 3 dogs. At least £1000 a month.

Queijo · 23/03/2024 16:56

7yo Dd and I and I spend around £150-£170 a week on food, takeaway, toiletries and cleaning products.

Not including dinner/lunches out.

SlowlyLurking · 23/03/2024 16:56

Two adults, two teenagers, two dogs and a cat, no alcohol = £750-£800 a month.

whatsthecraic91 · 23/03/2024 16:57

2ad 2 toddlers. About £500, I meal plan & my toddlers both go to nursery 5 days a week so get breakfast, lunch, tea & snacks there.

Yocal · 23/03/2024 16:58

Too much.2 adults, one child. Easily £200 per week. No alcohol in that either!

alaskaallowance · 23/03/2024 16:58

2 adults and 1 teen - about £450 per month shopping at Sainsbury's for all food, cleaning and toiletries.

trampoline123 · 23/03/2024 16:59

Family: 2 adults, 2 toddlers, 1 cat

We probably spend around £500 a month realistically.

Louis44 · 23/03/2024 16:59

Previously about £450 a month for 2 adults and 3 children but probably about £600 a month now with rising prices and as trying to prioritise on buying better quality/organic food. Could probably cut this down by eating and wasting less tbh

craigth162 · 23/03/2024 17:00

1 adult 1 teen 1 toddler 2 cats. Around £700 a month which tbh im shocked at. Didnt think i was extravagant but definitely need to try and reduce this

everythinglooksbetterpaintedblack · 23/03/2024 17:01

2 adults... i spend £145 every 10 days for everything... all food including lunches for work and snacks and treats, cleaning stuff and toiletries

caringcarer · 23/03/2024 17:01

2 adults and 1 teen male. £400 on 4 x main shops and £80 on 4 X milk and bread mid week. So about £480 pcm. We eat out once a week and that's extra plus take away once or twice a month again extra.

Icantbedoingwithit · 23/03/2024 17:01

Way too much about €1200 a month. 2 adults, 2 young adults and 1 teenagers. No booze.not including pet stuff. Horrific.

adhdmeds · 23/03/2024 17:02

2 adults, 2 primary aged children, a dog and a cat. We spend about £140 a week (includes pet food, cleaning products, washing powder and occasionally toiletries).

Every time I try and limit the spending we run out of food and have to do a top up in the local shop which ends up costing more money in the long run!

We are terrible at meal planning! Which I think increases the over all spend.

ThePoshUns · 23/03/2024 17:06

4 adults - £800-1000 a month

Luckydog7 · 23/03/2024 17:07

About 500 on main shops, another 100-150 on smaller shops in-between. Doesn't include coffee and cake out probably 2-3 times a month. No alcohol but a lot of meat, cheese and eggs. 2 adults, 2 small children under 7.

WillYouPutYourCoatOn · 23/03/2024 17:11

Finally! An honest thread!

Usually these descend into some bullshit "£60 p/wk, two adults, five kids and a partridge in a pear tree...and this includes all alcohol. What are you doing OP?" Hmm

DyddDewiSant · 23/03/2024 17:15

Family - 2 adults and 2 older teens 18+16 no pets

Adults wfh and teens take lunch to college.

I cook from scratch, shop mostly in Lidl / Aldi we eat meat most days. I don't buy much processed food. We don't waste food and use everything, dinner leftovers eaten for lunch etc
Shopping includes alcohol/toiletries/cleaning stuff.

I keep a record of my spending, since I Jan 2024 I have spent £940
that is for 82 days..............averages out at £80.25 per week.

Beezknees · 23/03/2024 17:20

Probably about £100 a week, that includes everything though toiletries/cleaning products etc, also included alcohol as I usually have a couple of bottles of prosecco at the weekend. Me and 16yo DS with a big appetite. He eats far more than me.
