How much do you spend on groceries per month?

My family size: 2 adults, 2 children
Food/Toiletries/Cleaning products: £600-650 per month

Interested to know how much you are all spending. We are hardly buying any luxuries and this just seems eye watering. I mean we are spending over £2100 just on mortgage, groceries, childcare and council tax. Let alone all the other bills…

2 adults and 2 children comes to about £400 per month. I don’t make packed lunches for kids while at school but pay for school dinners. We don’t eat a lot of meat which saves a lot and don’t buy alcohol often either

willowsxx · 23/03/2024 17:22

Family of 3, 2 adults and 1 almost one year old around £350-400 a month

DominoRules · 23/03/2024 17:23

Loads, I don’t really like to add it up!

2 adults, 2 teens, cat and dog - I would guess 250 minimum a week……..

2 adults (cats shopped for not during main food shop) probably about 1k a month. Ridiculous when I think about it but we eat really well! That includes cleaning / general household bits but we don't drink at home so not much alcohol. Shop a lot locally which bumps up the £.

DominoRules · 23/03/2024 17:23

That does include 3 meals a day 7 days a week for us all though

GoodnightAdeline · 23/03/2024 17:24

Am I the only person that spends approximately £2 a month in cleaning products?! If that?

CeeJay81 · 23/03/2024 17:24

£500, 2 adults, 1 teen, 1 junior and a cat. That doesn't include school dinners though, which they both have.

Family - 2 adults and 2 older teens 18+16 no pets

Adults wfh and teens take lunch to college.

I cook from scratch, shop mostly in Lidl / Aldi we eat meat most days. I don't buy much processed food. We don't waste food and use everything, dinner leftovers eaten for lunch etc
Shopping includes alcohol/toiletries/cleaning stuff.

I keep a record of my spending, since I Jan 2024 I have spent £940
that is for 82 days..............averages out at £80.25 per week.

So, just to clarify, the basically 4 adults in your house, cover their food, alcohol, toiletries and cleaning products with £20.06 a week each.

£2.87 a day. Food. Toiletries. Alcohol.

helpfulperson · 23/03/2024 17:25

Lone adult. I spend £160 a month on Gusto boxes which cover 5 meals a week and then about another £160 on other meals and drink.

CommeIlFaut · 23/03/2024 17:27

2 adults, 2 teens
2 large dogs and a gluttonous cat.

Kids get the option of a cooked meal at school but don’t always choose it. DH eats lunch near his office. I eat lunch out a couple of times a week. We eat out as a family most weeks.

Groceries are about £1200 per month, including cleaning products and everyday toiletries.

Main shop is a Waitrose delivery (about £220 pw), plus meat from the farm shop and regular trips to the deli/market/bakery for fresh stuff.

I don't spend much on cleaning products. My place doesn't really get messy often as no young kids or pets. Washing tablets are probably the most expensive.

Bluevelvetsofa · 23/03/2024 17:27

Two adults, about £350.

Citrusandginger · 23/03/2024 17:27

Two adults and a teen. 2 big shops a month + top ups usually comes in at £450/£500.

Before lock down, my weekly shop was more like £80 - £100.

GameOfJones · 23/03/2024 17:28

Two adults and two primary aged children. We spend around £100 per week at the supermarket but sometimes will also have lunch out. I'd say around £500 per month on supermarket shops and meals out.

DDs have school dinners though so no packed lunches.

TheNines · 23/03/2024 17:28

Family of 9 - spend about £2000 a month on food / cleaning products

concernedchild · 23/03/2024 17:29

Four adults. Probably £1000-£1200 months

Cbeebiesismyworld · 23/03/2024 17:29

2 adults and 3 young teens, spend around £150 a week on food/alcohol/cleaning. That doesn’t include the dog, or if we occasionally eat out/takeaway.

MuddlingThroughLife · 23/03/2024 17:30

3 adults and 3 cats. Between £700 and £800 per month. I meal plan and only buy treats such as chocolate, crisps and biscuits once a month and once they're gone, they're gone.

Edited as misunderstood!

Ah if it involves laundry that’s a bit more but cleaning wise I just buy a £2 bottle of CIF antibac and shine and use that for basically everything. Floor is just a dash of zoflora in hot water.

Instantcustard · 23/03/2024 17:36

2adults, 3 teenagers £850 a month.
Every time I think I have done a big shop it gets polished off by teenagers!

concernedchild · 23/03/2024 17:37

Four adults. Probably £1000-£1200 months

Just to add - 80% of this is my parents! They have branded EVERYTHING, even their ham, milk etc., everything is a brand as opposed to own brand

betterangels · 23/03/2024 17:42

£100 a month for one adult. I rarely eat meat. I've now done the calculations from 1k in Danish currency.
