How much do you spend on groceries per month?

My family size: 2 adults, 2 children
Food/Toiletries/Cleaning products: £600-650 per month

Interested to know how much you are all spending. We are hardly buying any luxuries and this just seems eye watering. I mean we are spending over £2100 just on mortgage, groceries, childcare and council tax. Let alone all the other bills…

Ok I thought we spent loads but looking at this thread I think we’re doing ok, maybe a little bit under average

We’re a family of 2 adults, 2 young teens, 2 primary aged kids and a dog
We spend around £550-£650 per month on food, cleaning supplies and basic toiletries

this thread is refreshing - we usually have judgy people announcing they spend so little on groceries and acting incredulous at the amounts other people quote!

the most expensive items in my shop are usually wine (🫣), dishwasher tablets, fairy washing pods and shampoo. Oh and cat milk😂

but over the years I have built brand loyalty though trial and error. I am horribly allergic to a lot of detergents, shampoos and shower gels. My cat is a fussy princess. And I like what I like!

sometimes my weekly shop hits £100 - and I live alone with a cat!

i also nip to M&S sometimes and but their yummy food!

@Bellyblueboy Same here. We have allergies in the family and after many years of finding what works. I am not in a rush to start changing products. My biggest spend is without a doubt clothes detergent and (my guilty pleasure) quilted toilet rolls.

2 adults, 2 primary children, and 2 young adults, who 'shop' for themselves but are regularly found routing around in the kitchen. Try to keep it to £1000 ish a month. We have swapped takeaways for fakeaways as they have become very expensive and are not as tasty as they used to be.

2 adults, 3DC - two have school lunches, one takes packed lunch (DC3's school lunch is free as in London and at primary). DH and I both work and eat at home the majority of the time - we probably have a takeaway every 2-3 weeks? One DC is also a coeliac, so specialist products are a bit more expensive.

We spend £8-900 a month on food and cleaning supplies. Wine/ beer I budget for separately. We eat well with the vast majority of meals cooked from scratch, shop at Sainsbury's for our main shop with top ups at Sainsbury's Local, Coop and M&S.

Am I the only person that spends approximately £2 a month in cleaning products?! If that?

Probably. I only buy what I consider the basics but if you include laundry products I would probably average around £10 a week.

Bellyblueboy · 24/03/2024 19:54

Cleaning products I buy

dishwasher tablets £10 every four months.
Laundry detergent £10 every two months
bleach £1 every week
washing up liquid £2 every other month
fabric condition £3 every month
surface spray £4 every month
glass cleaner £3 every six months
stain remover £6 every six months

i am impressed that anyone could spend less than £2 a month! I assume you don’t wash clothes very often?
