What do you buy for a woman who doesn't want or need anything

The woman is me. My birthday is coming up (not a big one) and my DH is asking me what I'd like. We tend to just tell each other so it's something wanted. I genuinely can't think of a thing this year and actually get fed up of just having 'stuff' around cluttering up the house. Any ideas?

A lovely spa break
Restaurant vouchers
Pottery classes (or similar)
An experience? I've just bought my 80 yr old Mum a zip line experience for North Wales 🤣

NobbyNobbs · 23/03/2024 13:47

Hate clutter and unwanted gifts too.

StopStartStop · 23/03/2024 13:47

Tea towels, aprons, mugs. Luxury mugs especially. They break easily and you'll need another by next birthday.
Hand cream is useful to have around.

My hubby and myself really don’t require any more bits of tat for Birthdays and Xmas just for the sake of buying something. We’ve now come to an agreement that we just buy a card, although I did get an M&S Colin the caterpillar cake this year, very amusing 🤣

Fabulous! I hope she has a great time. It would kill me...

I knew of a woman with a bad heart who went snowboarding in far foreign parts. It killed her, but I think that was the plan. May she rest in peace. Was wondering today if she'd had a dementia diagnosis. Anyway, far flung places are too expensive for me, but a zip line in North Wales would work just as well.

BCBird · 23/03/2024 13:54

Spa day for two, a facial at z local beauticians, digital subscription to magazine of interest?

BestIsWest · 23/03/2024 13:55

You may also be me. DH has just asked me the same. I have no idea.

EmpressaurusOfTheScathingTinsel · 23/03/2024 13:55

My sister & I agreed to stop buying each other things & do shared experiences instead. It’s working well.

SoupDragonsFriend · 23/03/2024 13:56

A donation to your nearest food bank, a local wildlife project, a charity of your choice?

MissingMoominMamma · 23/03/2024 13:56

I’d want a break somewhere. It can be camping if the budget is low- I just love being on holiday, even if only for a night or two.

Andarna · 23/03/2024 13:57

Tickets to the theater, cinema, a creative workshop, a personal trainer, a gym membership, vouchers for the garden center.

CheeryFinch · 23/03/2024 13:57

I am that woman too. And I have had a heart to heart with all my family, and said I'd much rather go for a long walk followed by lunch than get stuff just for the sake of it.

MamaWillYouBuyMeAWillYouBuyMeABanana · 23/03/2024 13:57

My ds doesn't want heaps of stuff anymore so I pay for a weekend away for him and his gf or tattoo vouchers (if that's your thing).

Mytholmroyd · 23/03/2024 13:57

I love flowers so my children buy me a monthly subscription delivery. I really enjoy it ☺️

Andarna · 23/03/2024 13:58

My husband and his best friend always take each out for a fancy dinner for their birthdays.

MonsteraMama · 23/03/2024 13:58

@NobbyNobbs I go to the zip line with my mam every now and then as we live nearby, it's brilliant! Hope she has an amazing time!

Second an experience though OP, I'm going rum making with my husband for his birthday this year. There's loads of fun things to do that don't involve clutter or stuff!

fishfingersandtoes · 23/03/2024 13:59

Some councils let you pay for a tree to be planted on your road, what about that?

Newestname002 · 23/03/2024 13:59

I love luxury fabrics which are useful also, so:

Cashmere/cashmere silk bed socks, wrist warmers, ponchos, shawl/pashmina, beany, blanket/throw

Fine silk or cotton scarf,

Thick solid silver cuff bracelets

Fine, plain gold bracelets and matching earrings

A good quality watch or
Apple Watch

12 months supply of yellow roses with gypsophila (baby's breath)

My husband usually gets me tickets to something or a nice meal out or a boat trip. I also don’t need any more stuff and really enjoy nice outings .

RedToothBrush · 23/03/2024 13:59

A book is always an option for the person who has everything. They can be second hand and passed on easily.

Or an experience day of some kind. Or a food hamper of some kind.

But yeah I'd happily stop it with buying for the occasion rather than because you actually want/need something.

NoSquirrels · 23/03/2024 13:59

A trip away, a super fancy meal out, a subscription to something, a theatre trip, basically anything you can spend money on that isn’t physical stuff.

mewkins · 23/03/2024 14:00

Tickets for a flower show (if that's your thing!). DNA test kit 😁

Tootytoot78 · 23/03/2024 14:03

We have been married for over 46 years, and don't need anymore 'stuff'' Instead when we go on holiday we spend the birthday/ Christmas/wedding anniversary money on flight upgrades.

DinnaeFashYersel · 23/03/2024 14:05

I ask for theatre and cinema vouchers.

cariadlet · 23/03/2024 14:05

Just tell him that there's nothing you want or need. It's silly to try and find something to suggest for the sake of it.

My dp and I stopped buying each other Christmas presents a very long time ago and last year we decided to stop with the birthday presents too.

The only new things I ever fancy are books and dp isn't a reader so wouldn't know what to buy and he never wants anything. Stopping the present buying made sense to us.
