Renew passport from child to adult

DSs child passport expires in September. He will be 18 in May so will now need an adult passport. How do I renew it from a child to adult one? Will definitely need a new photo so can I do it online? TIA

You just renew it as an adult one. It's very straightforward. I've done all of my DS's ones online when they went from child to adult.

You upload the photo from your phone or input the code from a Photo Booth.

It will be a first adult passport, (age 16 is classed as adult) so I think you will have to newly apply for that, as opposed to renewing a child one to adult.

We renewed dds online and used a photo off of her phone. So easy to do.

You can renew it online, obviously new photo is needed but I vaguely remember that you can use DVLA one if they have recently applied for a driving licence ( although that may be the other way round).

It was just an adult renewal when I did DS2's a couple of years ago. It isn't a first passport.

We recently did my dd18's passport and her old one had expired 2 years ago. It was just a very straightforward renewal and no need for counter signature.

The photo was a pain as she is very pale skinned and it kept saying her face shade was too similar to the background. She wrote in the comment box 'I am naturally very pale skinned' and sent it as it was. It was accepted.

It's an adult renewal (applying for an adult passport and previously holding a passport even a child one). It is not a first adult passport in terms of the application type.

I've just renewed my sons his was a child's one and new one will be an adult as his now 17 and I've just got a message that he needs a countersignature. Has anyone else had to do this?

Hi! Any advice on the info or documents needed when transitioning from child to adult UK passport? Any information on this is greatly appreciated! Is countersignsture necessary?

You just need to fill in the form, supply a photo and send in the old passport. A counter signature is not needed if both photos are clearly the same person.

I think I did get my DS's passports countersigned just to be safe though as I didn't want any delays (I knew someone I could easily ask to do it)
