Incompetent at work

Has anyone had a crisis of confidence at their job?

I was promoted to a senior position at a young age and although I’m doing alright, I can’t help but feel judged at work. Like my face doesn’t fit. If you’ve ever felt like this, how did you move on?

I think we have misconceptions about work. 1. Everyone else knows what they are doing

  1. People are thinking about me

Both of these are untrue. The only way I have learnt to overcome doubt is by meeting so many people at work and realising no one really knows what they are doing - despite appearances.

A great thing you can do is challenge your thoughts. So if you think - this person is judging me. Challenge that. What is the evidence? If you think you don't look the part - challenge that. Where is that thought from? What is REALITY. And what is just a thought. Thoughts aren't facts.

That's ok. You've been promoted to a senior position at a young age - YOU ROCK!! Senior people (age) doesn't equal effort or intelligence.

You think you're doing alright ......
give yourself the praise you deserve - you might be bossing it. Keep compliments and praise in a folder. Update your CV. You deserve this position. You have nothing to prove x
