If you were a marriage certificate ......

Where would you be??

I need to prove my change of name for DBS for a job that I start in 4 weeks. My marriage certificate isn't where all my other documents are. I have no idea where it could be. Can't even remember when I last saw it. I have tried all my usual dumping spots, been through ALL the paperwork and the office and nothing.

To request an urgent copy it's gonna cost me £40 which I don't want to do as we got married somewhere really special so ideally want to trace the original document.

Welcome to all ideas and also anyone with any special abilities to find other people's missing things! It's definitely in the house but where .......

Is it in an envelope that you've overlooked? We have two copies but I recently found one still in the envelope it had come back from the passport office in, rather than the envelope they are both usually kept in.

I will if necessary!! I have until 4pm on Monday afternoon now to search though as I've missed the 4pm deadline for today and the requests are only processed Monday to Friday.

It's more the sentimental value that I don't want to replace it and want to actually find it. I'm annoyed as I'm normally careful and keep all important documents in one place but it's simply not there.

I can't even think when or why I would have needed it??

I sent away for a new one when I needed it for something.

But first we looked through our files and drawers, never did find it. Now it's in a safety deposit box at the bank.

Try looking at the backs of every drawer @DopamineChaser And every cupboard, right at the back (especially if there is a drawer above it, as it may have slipped out of the drawer at the back.) Bedroom drawers, kitchen drawers, dining room drawers. Hope you find it soon. xx

I don't keep envelopes for exactly this reason, everything is taken out of the envelope it comes in and put away.

We got married in September, many years ago, but delayed honeymoon until March, I changed my name and got the certificate back. I remember being annoyed as they stapled a compliment slip to the certificate and it has caused a small tear in the corner.

I had it after that as I photo copied it for some reason....... I found the photocopy's where the original should be which is also annoying 😂

Ooooh, when you photocopied the certificate (for whatever,) could you have sent/posted the original? (As you have the photocopy!)

Have you used it to change any other documents ? Like for the electoral roll

No I definitely used the copies for something and did some extra! The only reason I can think for needing to send an original was for the passport name change.

I'm just puzzled and it's driving me mad 😂

I'm thinking it slipped down the back of a drawer. So that's my next port of call in the morning once I can make a noise without risking waking someone! Only 6 sets of drawers to pull out, 3 of which will need a tool of some sort to get the bottoms drawers out of!

Definitely not still in the photocopier, was copied on the home printer which had been changed twice over the years but thank you!

Yeah I know, I've done multiple over the years and all the other documents have always sufficed. They want to see an original document for proof of change of name though and the marriage certificate is the only one I have?! I might query it further on Monday if I have no luck 🙈
