It is bad and horrible, but hopefully not on the level of the events in Paris which was an ISIS co-ordinated attack across three places, with the biggest one they were successful at being the Bataclan, which is the part we tend to remember, but 40 of the fatalities and many injuries were at the other two sites.
Had they managed to enter the National Stadium as they attempted to, fatalities and injuries would have been even worse. I don't remember who was playing but it was an international football match on at the time.
I apologize for being pedantic, but think it's important in how we remember.

@Elleherd unfortunately Islamic state have claimed responsibility..

TBH not surprised. I hope it is at least a single event and not simply the most 'successful' one.

It's crazy that US officials issued a warning a couple of weeks ago due to Intel they recieved.. This makes Putin & the Russian government look very incompetent not to have heeded the warning..

Gosh this is worrying

justasking111 · 22/03/2024 22:03

That Forbes article the Russians claim to have foiled one attack

Blueballoons1 · 22/03/2024 22:05

It's frightening. ISIS have been off the radar for a long time now.. But why Moscow? What beef do they have with Russia? I can't understand why or how they could plan attacks.. Not with the Russian cia where there's literally a spy on every corner...

Any idea what the motive would be and why target Moscow? I didn't realise that the Islamic State had it in for Russia. I thought that they hated westernised countries the most.

Blueballoons1 · 22/03/2024 22:09

@TheSnakeCharmer realistically this does not bode well for the Paris Olympics or the Euros if ISIS is back.. Who's even funding them?
Yes I agree completely they despise Western culture.. Why Russia? Why target Moscow?

Could it be to do with Russia and China vetoing US resolution for immediate ceasefire in Gaza?

Russia is pro-Assad. ISIS, if they have really done this, do not like Russia's intervention in Syria.

Blueballoons1 · 22/03/2024 22:12

How will Putin respond? How credibly did he take US intelligence?

Russia has tried and failed in the middle east Afghanistan and others going back decades. There's no love lost there

Russia and China are pro-Iran and anti-Israel. They didn't veto that resolution for the benefit of Israel. This could be about Syria, Chechnya or Central Asia.

Blueballoons1 · 22/03/2024 22:19

The world seemed so unstable 5 hours ago as it stood.. Now 5 hours later lSIS is back in the frame it's down right petrifying...
Obviously Trump lied big time when he claimed to exterminate ISIS!

BBC news saying something along the lines America warned Russia about possible terrorist attack and Russia dismissed it. Bit mysterious.

WinterMorn · 22/03/2024 22:23

Well, Trump lying isn’t really surprising news is it?

The UK and US both warned Russia about tips a couple of weeks ago, it was all over the news. The Kremlin pretty much dismissed it.

CormorantStrikesBack · 22/03/2024 22:51

Yes I initially thought was it an attack against the regime and someone is trying to get rid of Putin. But seems like an awful terrorist attack against innocent people. Can’t say that Isis popping up in Russia of all places was something I expected.

Someone mentioned about the Olympics In Paris later this year and funnily enough someone earlier in the week said to me they’re concerned about a big terrorist attack at the Olympics.

Blueballoons1 · 22/03/2024 22:51

Putin looks like a fool on the world stage now. Also the Russians are going to be very angry & frightened that he chose to ignore the threat.. That's if they were even aware of the threat due to censorship..

OP posts:
Ursulla · 22/03/2024 23:03

Sure they'll have heard about the warning. But even US Embassy staff were only advised to avoid large venues for a couple of days, and that was weeks ago. So would have considered that the threat wasn't current, tonight.

Oblomov24 · 22/03/2024 23:14

How awful, how sad. Islamic state already claimed it. Sad times. You can't even be safe if you are older and go to a 70's Russian Rock band concert.

Blueballoons1 · 22/03/2024 23:15

Am I wrong in thinking that ISIS wouldn't attack during their holy period of Ramadan or am I way off the mark?
