New job and pregnancy

Im 2 weeks into a new job and 12 weeks pregnant. I told my boss this week and she was not happy. She asked me what my plans are going forward and about returning to work.

There's nothing about maternity pay in my contract, what am I legally entitled to? Will i get anything from the govt?

Did you come straight from another job or have a gap before this one?

You won't qualify for maternity pay (smp) from your employer unless you have worked for them for at least 26 weeks. You may be able to qualify for maternity allowance if you have earned enough prior to your new job there is a maternity allowance calculator/eligibility on the gov website. Your employer does legally have to let you have the actual time off work for maternity leave though.

You should get Maternity Allowance and depending on income/benefits potentially the Sure Start grant.

Had a gap before this as was travelling
