I could just cry - pneumonia

I was admitted and spent a few days in hospital at the beginning of February with pneumonia. I’ve been really careful, I’ve done everything to the letter etc etc etc. I’ve now managed to pick up a cold from the kids and now have ?reoccurrence of pneumonia, ?the same pneumonia just bloody pneumonia again 😔 I’m back on a course of steroids, antibiotics and still the same inhalers that I hadn’t finished from February. I’m so lucky to have the fab care I’m getting but I’m so fed up of being ill. Thanks for reading, I just needed a vent.

Thank you. The GP was only happy to leave me at home today because I’m taking on lots of fluids and resting - everything I’d be doing at hospital including the combination of drugs. He did say if I’m not showing signs of improvement by tomorrow afternoon I will be admitted 😔 - obviously goes without saying anything changes etc and ring 111

I hope someone is there looking after you! If not, get a friend to bring you tea and sympathy (or hot Ribena at least). Its utterly miserable.

Did you have have CRP blood tests for CRP and x-ray?

Tinaforshort · 22/03/2024 23:53

@Saz12 Yes, I have my amazing husband.

@Livinghappy Yes, I have had several blood tests. 2 chest X-rays already, another next week and another in six weeks. I’ve also been referred to the lung clinic as a follow up from my hospital admission.

Sorry you are feeling like this, I had pneumonia in Jan, it was awful we are only into march and I have had pneumonia sickness bug, trapped nerve in my shoulder, need to have my gallbladder removed and now I’ve woke up today with the most horrendous stomach bug!! I am so sick of being ill!! Xx

Tinaforshort · 23/03/2024 17:41

@Jayd291 So sorry to hear that you’ve been having a horrible time too.

I have other chronic health issues and this on top has just completely wiped me out and made my other medical issues even worse, I just can’t seem to catch a break. I literally slept from 9pm until 11pm last night then I couldn’t sleep until this afternoon, I managed a couple of hours but I’m exhausted. I had this when I was first admitted to hospital and didn’t sleep for 48hrs but I put that down to that chaos of the hospital and the very regular checks I was getting.

What symptoms have you got now? I feel you I’ve been awake since half 1 this morning I feel so tired but just can’t sleep and I’ve been in bed all day!!

I’m so sorry you are going through something similar, I sincerely hope you start to feel better soon.

I have nerve pain in my abdomen from complications from a hysterectomy and the coughing is making that a lot worse, the regular pain medications I take for that are not touching it. My eye is killing me - I have chronic uveitis, I have a migraine - I guess from lack of sleep and I also have fibromyalgia and that is flaring, as is my psoriasis. Then I have the chest and back pain with the pneumonia, breathlessness and wheezing and the coughing 😔 I just feel like death on a plate but my symptoms have improved since getting the steroids and antibiotics in my system.

I’m sorry for the rant/pity party hopefully tomorrow is a better day.

Fingers crossed that you don't have to go into hospital. I've had pneumonia a couple of times and had to be admitted for IV antibiotics. It took me a few months to feel better so please take it easy. I have a compromised immune system and I'm very strict about people visiting when they're unwell so don't put yourself at any extra risk. There is a vaccine for pneumonia - I don't know if you've had it, but if not ask your GP about it. Look after yourself and take it easy!

Pneumonia is a hard one to shake off in my experience. Really can take a while to turn a corner and then it can pop up again and get you. I sympathise and it sounds like you have a lot of other things going on as well.
I'm sure you know, but rest is key. Even when feeling improved I forced myself to lie down in bed for an hour a day. ( wasn't working at the time as it was during the pandemic and I was furloughed)
I took multivitamins and iron as well to try to boost my immune system.
When you start to feel better it's baby steps as it can come back again.
Hope you feel better soon.

Tinaforshort · 23/03/2024 19:23

@Craftysue Thank you. I’ve been really strict and literally haven’t left the house (I never leave home anyway due to severe anxiety and the sheer panic it causes) and only been around my husband and kids so I guess I’ve caught something from them. When I was in hospital in February it was awful, I was blue lighted in from home and was all quite traumatic. I was high priority for an ambulance who were supposed to be on an 8min response and it took an hour and a half for them to get here, we had them almost constantly on the phone. We live 45-50mins away from the hospital with no traffic and they advised DH not to take me himself. But that’s by the by.

@Jayd291 Thank you, will keep my fingers crossed for the both of us x

I have spoken to a GP and he’s happy that I’m making enough progress without being admitted to hospital, with the instructions that if anything changes to make my way into hospital.

I suffer from anxiety also and am terrified of leaving the house since having pneumonia incase I catch something ( which obviously has not worked because I’m ill again for the 5th time!! Xx

@Jayd291 I really do feel for you. I have been pretty much housebound for years, due to my anxiety and physical issues. It’s just so bloody frustrating and I think that’s why I want to cry a lot! Although I’ve had a huge snotty cry and big cuddles with DH whose given me a pep talk, so now I’m determined my big girl pants are going on!

Yeh sometimes you need to just let it out don’t u. I must admit when I had pneumonia I was so emotional, I couldn’t stop crying for the 2 full weeks I had it x

It’s crazy how emotionally draining it is.

OP posts:
Jayd291 · 24/03/2024 18:44

I’m feeling better than I was yesterday, but still feel unwell. I have managed to get out of bed for a bit today. Aw hopefully you are on the mend now! X

Alargeoneplease89 · 24/03/2024 18:45

Full sympathies! I have an immune system disorder and suffer from reoccurring pneumonia (only in my early 30s!) Makes you feel like a frail OAP!

Hope you are on the mend and not sure if you already had one but get the pneumonia jab, I have had much less cases since having it.

Mischance · 24/03/2024 18:53

Unfortunately there is a lot of this about this year ... lots of my family have been in a similar situation and continue to struggle.
I think the covid lockdown left us vulnerable, having not been exposed to small doses.of bugs by being hidden away.
I am sorry for your situation and hope you will be well soon.

Tinaforshort · 24/03/2024 19:26

@Jayd291 Ahh glad to hear your feeling a bit better. Fingers crossed we’re both on the mend x

@Alargeoneplease89 I’m sorry you’ve been through similar. No, I haven’t had the jab but it’s definitely something to consider going forward. I never want to feel like this again. I’m only in my early 40’s and use a walking stick and wheelchair when needed so this on top makes me feel older and frailer.

@Mischance Yes, my mother in law has been quite poorly this year with this so called 100 day cough. These bugs just seem to me worse than ever.

Heyheyitsanotherday · 24/03/2024 19:31

I had this a few years ago. I swear Dd coughed in my face and a few days later I was poorly. 2 weeks later I was in hospital with pneumonia. I came home after a night in but was so poorly for a few weeks that I think my Dh thought I was depressed. I feel for you op. It is so horrid being poorly for extended periods. Hope you are on the mend soon. I tried sleeping on my front, a vicks plug in that I used for the kids and forcing myself out for fresh air even though I felt like
death. Hugs to you
