Missing birth certificate, where is it?

Help, please! Hive mind, psychic, lucky guess, all help welcome!

I cannot find mine or my sons birth certificate. I knew my sons was missing, I misplaced it when he was tiny and thought I had just put it somewhere silly in my exhausted newborn state. It never turned up.

Now I need mine and it is missing too. I was convinced it was in the filing cabinet but it's not there.

My daughters is still in it's folder where I expected the other two to be.

I have no idea if they are lost together or in two separate places. Where are they?

GRO has them. Go online and order?

As above poster said. ^ Just order another one.

You can order copies online.
We moved house and left a suitcase in the loft which contained all the birth certificates and DDs first, really cute coat ☹️

Thanks. That site was down when I looked last night. Would still like to find the originals though.

Did you order him a passport when he was born? If so, either they never got returned or you put them somewhere else when they were returned. With the passports?

No. I am doing their first passports now. I have copies of DS's but mine is my only one.

Taken into a bank to start an account?

PuttingDownRoots · 21/03/2024 19:43

Have you had a DBS check at work or similar, and taken it there?

PuttingDownRoots · 21/03/2024 19:44

Or do you have a printer with a scanner?

No, we realised DS's was missing when we tried to open his.

This is a possibility. I need to look in my old work things. Thanks

Good thought but we already checked.

Did you need it to register for a nursery or doctor? Or perhaps put it in his Red book?

I used a copy for nursery. I don't think I needed it for the docs but it isn't in his red book. Good thought though.

All birth certificates are actually copies. They are certified copies of the register entry. We had 3 for each of ours. They all say copy.

I don't remember if mine says copy or not. But is the original handwritten red one. The registrar had beautiful handwriting. I know it's not the end of the world if I don't find it. I'm just at a loss as to where on earth it has gone.

The certified copy will be a copy of the handwritten original. It won’t be a new form that was filled out on a computer. You’d still see the handwriting.

Order a new one. Then the original WILL turn up.

I found one at the bottom of a huge box of Lego years after it had been lost.
