Passport name change - original documents?

Are the original documents required to change name on my passport? Or are certified copies ok?

Cannot find the definitive answer, but I hate the thought of sending away my only copy, in case it's lost!!

Does anyone know for sure? Thank you

Must be originals. They generally return them quickly - I think you have to pay extra if you want them to send it special, but IMO it's worth it for peace of mind
