Duffy the singer *trigger for rape and kidnap*

Sorry, I tried to find a celebrity board but I couldn't find one so hope it's okay to post here.

I fell into a bit of a 2000s rabbit hole with music recently and was listening to a few songs from Duffy (Mercy, Warwick Avenue etc). Back in the day she was very famous and popular so I decided to find out what she was doing now. I was really shocked to hear she's been through a really terrible ordeal that involved her being kidnapped and raped by someone at her birthday and has basically been keeping to herself for the past decade. It just really saddened me that such a talented young woman with such a bright future ahead of her went through something which essentially led to her life never been the same again. I tried to find out how she's doing now but there's really nothing out there to indicate whether she's got a new job, if she's happy, etc.

I remember seeing a post on sm (think twitter?) about what happened to Duffy. It was right before covid so early 2020. The comments underneath the post were effing disgusting, all "name names or it didnt happen" / "another one jumping on the metoo bandwagon" and worse. The usual gammony victim-blaming bs that most SA survivors deal with.
Maybe she got a taste of that, thought "eff this" and retreated back to her private life. Maybe she wants to be anonymous for a while. Cant say I'd blame her. Hope she's happy and doing ok.

It reminds me of the r kelly documentary, so many beautiful talented young women with so much potential, just having it all taken from them :(

Yes I recall some comments (mainly from men it appeared) but also a load of supportive ones. She hinted at a return but seems to have gone off grid again. I just hope going public with her story didn't make her feel worse and retreat even further. I honestly don't blame her either.

I remember reading a while back she went through a horrendous ordeal, hopefully she does come back,her records had a northern soul,mod vibe and that's a hard thing to get right.

I loved her songs. Some man took everything from her. I am incandescent with rage on her behalf.

Yeah it sickens me to think this man stole such a big part of her life (from reading her story it seems this person was known to her and somewhat powerful in the industry). She seems to have just disappeared off the face of the earth since that statement which implies she's probably not doing too well, or opted for a quiet life

Very scary to think she was kidnapped while in the public eye and there was no uproar about it. I wonder where he is now - did it ever go to court?

I don’t think it ever went to court as she never named him. Apparently he is a very powerful man and I suspect she fears for her life hence laying very low.

@FrogFairy Yes I read somewhere that she did log it with police due to a few other things happening such as an attempted break in, but never pressed charges (probably out of fear of repercussions).

Yes - a rare talent. A beautifully soulful singer who had so much potential... a real loss to the music industry. To have it taken away from her for that reason is 😡
