Can you get laser eye surgery for a reading prescription?

I know it's something that happens to everyone, but I'm so frustrated by it. I only started wearing glasses in my 30s. My distance prescription isn't that strong but I needed varifocals aged 40 and now at 44 it's deteriorated so fast I can't read anything, at all, without my glasses.

It's not that I hate wearing glasses - they suit me, I think - but I hate that instead of helping my vision I now need them to actually function. I teach English so work is a nightmare as my varifocals in my current prescription knock the middle distance out of whack, so I'm constantly taking glasses on and off.

I can't believe this is just going to get worse and worse forever. I always thought that the laser surgery was just for distance, but can it be done for reading?
