Could I have some help with this maths question please?

I think of a number. I multiply this number by 8, then subtract 66. The result is twice the number that I was thinking of.
What is the number I was thinking of?

I know what the answer is but only through trial and error trying different numbers which took a little time. What is the faster route please?

X is the number you are thinking of, so

8x - 66 = 2x
6x = 66
x = 11

8x-66=2x

It's always so easy when you see the answer 😂

Exactly this.

Algebra and rearranging the equation to find the missing number x.

I know. The answer is baked beans.
