Panic.

I don't know what to do, my anxiety is through the roof. It's just panic, unless I walk or run all day then nothing works

To be fair I could try harder, eat better, remove the twice a week alcohol intake and stress from work but this is now getting insane. I'm waking up like I've been electrocuted and most of the day I'm just in panic.

Is this peri menopause (46) or is something proper off kilter.

I feel I'm having a heart attack, flutters constantly

Im can't take it anymore

Oh and zero sleep, due to the panic and heart palpitations

Have you been to your GP?
The alcohol won't be helping, a lot of people process it differently as we age

cpphelp · 19/03/2024 23:11

Do you get night sweats?

Rollinroller · 19/03/2024 23:12

Hi op, are you me?! I’ve always had issues with stress / anxiety but after an exceptionally difficult year in 2023 since Christmas I’ve felt like this basically every day. It’s been horrendous. I’m 44

Please see your GP. They can run tests to check if you're perimenopausal (I think!). And if needed they can give you something to help curb the anxiety. Potentially diazepam? Or maybe a short supply of sleeping pills? And then look at longer term options.

Alcohol plays havoc with my anxiety. I would definitely cut it out. You may get some initial relief but the anxiety comes back stronger the next day.

I have awful palpitations too when my anxiety flares up. Propranolol can help with this too.

There's lots of options to try so definitely don't suffer in silence Smile

Only advice I can give, see GP

Yes I came on here to suggest propanerol (sp? too. I find it really helps with the physical symptoms which then calms my mind too. I am also menopausal but not sure if it's connected.

I actually don't get the sweats. Well I have but probably 2-3 times in the last year.

Alcohol I think is the main contributor, I honestly feel like I'm dying the next day after half a bottle.

Have you had your blood pressure tested? My wife was put on antidepressants not long ago, but they put her on BP medication and the flutters and anxiety disappeared in a few days.

Obviously, see a doctor about it...

Brrrrrrrrrritscold · 21/03/2024 12:15

Have you tried taking L Theanine? It’s really helped with my anxiety. I actually don’t drink any more, but take shed loads of vitamins and have managed to stop menopause sweats, migraines and anxiety.

vivainsomnia · 21/03/2024 13:05

Definitely menopausal symptoms. My anxiety and panic symptoms were absolutely horrendous but all through the process, hot flushes were few and further apart.

Some have dreadful hot flushes, many a day, some have next to none but horrible anxiety attacks.

Menopause manifest itself it different ways for different people. I agree, time to see your GP and read about peri menopause.

I read recently that being dehydrated can cause anxiety although it doesn't sound like it is just that. I went through a horrible stage of panic attacks- possibly long COVID related. I found drinking electrolyte drinks helped and now I alwsys drink them as I think they calm me down. It may be the magnesium in them. I don't drink the caffeine or sugar ones. I did go on sertaline too- just 50 mg and that also stopped the panic attacks. It's such a horrible thing to go through.
