If you had an extra £2k per year...

If you had an extra £2k per year in your hand after all bills/essentials had been paid and it was to be used entirely for you to improve your life, what would you spend it on?

I was having this conversation with my husband and he said a full body health check annually for both of us to identify any 'problems' early doors. Something i imagine the Royal Family would have.

Mine was a bit more boring in the form of a gardener. The only depressing thing is, once the gardner stops, everything goes wild again! A bit like a cleaner, a short term solution but wow i love the idea of gleam and neat bushes 🤣.

How about you?

Also this is for fun!! No I'm not a journalist, i doubt they care about trivial wistfulness!

Short breaks away. £2k would pay for 4.

Saschka · 19/03/2024 17:46

So £40 pw?

Probably a cleaner? Or maybe hire a zipcar for the day and go somewhere in the countryside - something we used to pre-kids but never seem to have time for these days.

It would just disappear on the usual stuff but hopefully mean I use my overdraft less.

2k a month extra is where the good times would roll.

Wow I'd love to have so much money it wasn't noticed!!

Actually I think right now I'd pay for an autism assessment for my youngest.

It how I feel. £2 would just get swallowed up by things that need doing or boring house maintenance stuff.

We've a 17 year old sofa which really has earnt it's keep. It can keep going for a while but it will need replacing at some point in the next couple of years.

Then there's bound to be something that breaks. Or an unexpected bill.

Another holiday, obv. ☀️

I'd find a grey squirrel and dye it a pet-friendly neon pink. I'd then release it in the New Forest and challenge people to catch it, with the only rule being that you have to successfully hold onto it for 30 seconds with exclusively pair of chopsticks.

The winner would get the £2000 and worldwide recognition as 'Chopsquiz Champion'. This would be a televised event, with proceeds going to the RSPCA and the WWF, with an increasing thousand pounds being added to the prize each successive year.

Some short breaks away in the UK. We could get about four with that. Perhaps one in Hay on Wye, Glasgow, Cornwall and Bath.

PiggieWig · 26/05/2024 15:14

I’d go on holiday. I can’t afford to at the moment and it would be lovely to.

Lilacdew · 26/05/2024 15:18

That's just over £40pw. I would probably spend it on fitness classes. But I like OP's DH's idea of a thorough health check - an annual MOT.

Best answer so far 😂

I truly love the amount of thought that has gone into this 😂

Eeeden · 26/05/2024 15:24

I'd buy whatever books I wanted. I'm always trying to select from the books that are on offer. I'd get out of the bargain book section and into the full price, have what you like, section.

chocolatecoveredpeanut · 26/05/2024 15:27

You wouldn't have it really though because the CoL is increasing. 2k...that would probably make me feel like it was last year and I could buy things like 2 lots of meat a week instead of 1.

Vermin · 26/05/2024 15:48

@Eeeden why not use the library and read what you want? You now have £2k to spare

Ithinktomyselfwhatawonderfulworld · 26/05/2024 15:58

I love the idea of a health MOT. So probably that and any cash left over I’d look to get 2 deep cleans a year (spring and winter maybe) to do all the boring deep clean jobs
