Anyone have short & light periods and conceived without problems?

Hi everyone

My partner and I are TTC soon and I am having a think (worry!) about whether my short and really light periods might mean it’s a bit harder for me. At the moment my periods are about 3 days long (third is really light though (covers about a quarter of a tampon, sorry for TMI!) and very light. They didn’t used to be like this before taking the pill for 8 or so years. Post pill (2/3 years) they have been like this.

My cycles are around 25/26 days for last few months, previously were more like 28. I’ve been doing some ovulation LH sticks and I do appear to get high LH levels though luteal phase is only around 10/11 days. I’m 32.

Would love to hear success stories from anyone with similar background!

thanks!

Yep. Period normally 5 days with only 3 needing proper pads. Regular as clockwork. Conceived more quickly than expected both times.

I'm talking 40+ years ago, so no individual information accessible. Only knowing the fertile period was around the middle of the month.

Tarmacadamia · 19/03/2024 13:43

Your cycle sounds exactly like mine, although mine only lasts 23/24 days. I used those stick things to work out when my fertile window was - conceived in month 3 first time, then month 1. Late thirties. So yes, very easily. Good luck!

I am intrigued by these posts - my periods (now had hysterectomy) from the very first one lasted 10 days or more with flooding - I have been known to use 2 large tampons and 2 pads at once and still stain the bed. Was I glad to see the back of my bloody uterus!

Good luck with your conception plans.

I’ve never had a heavy period in my life. They were all scant an irregular. All three children conceived naturally but not particularly quickly .. 6-9 months

Wilkolampshade · 19/03/2024 15:03

I didn't have seriously heavy periods until perimenopause, honestly just a few days of relatively light flow although often weirdly painful cramping though.... DD1 conceived very first attempt, and DD2 on the second. I realise now how very lucky I was.
Good luck OP.

ASighMadeOfStone · 19/03/2024 15:11

Me.
I had very light periods (only needed to use something the first day usually) and they would last a maximum of 3 days. I had them every 18-21 days.

Conceived first time of trying aged 38.

Mazuslongtoenail · 19/03/2024 15:13

3 day periods with the second and third day being incredibly light. Have conceived both children on first attempt.

Sleepygrumpyandnothappy · 19/03/2024 15:14

Yes, at 37.

Lightevian · 19/03/2024 18:05

Thank you all so much, really reassuring! I guess you really don’t know how it’s going to go until you start properly trying!

Understandable! Generally speaking I have no complaints about light periods, I just read something about it meaning a less than ideal situation for conceiving so it’s made me worry a bit !

If very light periods can work so well, why the bloody hell does evolution put us through so much crap with 5 days of heavy flow, stained sheets etc etc?

Just bloody WHY?

Strangly although I always had short period cycles 25/26 days or so. I had probably medium heavyness until taking the pill. When we decided to try for babies I stopped the pill after 10years or so of little to no period at all and for four months (until we conceived both times) my periods were a fraction as heavy as they were in my 20s. Probably 25% as heavy I would say. Wouldn't need to change a pad all day, tampons were used at night but not fully red the next morning.

No trouble conceiving, 4th cycle each time. No miscarriages or chemicals (to my knowledge) and normal pregnancies except for my waters going early both times.

Strange isn’t it. I’m not sure I would go back on the pill after (hopefully successfully) TTC, they seem to have quite a few linked effects which we don’t fully know about.

really helpful to hear success stories, thanks Smile

How are you getting on? Same boat!

Benefitbettyquestion · 19/05/2025 15:48

I didn't realise this was in any way an issue.
I have 2 day light period, conceived month 1 with first and month 2 with second.

Sorry @AnxiousPoster I didn’t see your reply at the time.

We started TTC very end of the summer last year and conceived on 3rd cycle, I’m currently 31 weeks pregnant Smile

Hope you and @123MK are getting on ok

Congratulations!! So very happy to hear.
May I ask did you have light spotting/light period still? Did you do anything different?

Yes I still had light periods and cycle was around 26 days. I have subclinical hypothyroidism and had upped my thyroxine over the summer to get it to a level between 1-2 TSH (which actually led to some very weird 10 day cycles for a month which worried me!), obviously impossible to know if that definitely had effect as I’d only started trying a few cycles before I conceived (know I’m lucky with this)

Sorry if you haven’t had any luck yet, I really hope it’s your time soon Flowers

I had no periods for 12 years. Within a month of decided we wanted to have a child, I was pregnant, without the periods having restarted. I had even bought some ovulation sticks, which has all read negative prior to my falling pregnant.
