We are going to tatershall lakes for a mini break this week. Me DH, DS (22 months) Step son (6). Despite growing up, living and working around that area for years I've never actually stayed there. Been there for functions etc. has anyone been? Is it worth paying for th guest passes? We are only going for two nights so DH doesn't think it's worth It? I know the area well so I'm well aware of nearby attractions etc. trying to explain to DH that you need passes to go to the bars and restaurants and swimming etc. anyone offer any insight and what was your itinerary when you went?

We went last summer, we had guest passes but I can't remember exactly which bits you needed them for. We booked the splash park (indoor bit) a couple of days, had to pre-book a time but they didn't seem to kick you out and didn't stop you wandering between that and the small indoor swimming pool, maybe because it wasn't too busy. Also booked the Lido which was nice but probably needs at least decent weather!

We didn't bother with the arcade or the shows which I think are very popular but which DS would hate. We saw a couple of the outdoor ones from the bar and they were quite interesting (although at one point there was a lot of chasing other guests round with custard pies which we stayed well out of!).

There's a children's play area and small outdoor splash park in the outdoor seating area for the bar / resteraunt. Also mini-golf there which we booked.

The pedalos have a little bit of lake space of their own, they only have 3 in total so its not a very busy or big bit of lake. DD did the inflatable thing in the middle of the lake which looked brutal (but hilarious for us to watch).

We had the dogs with us and it was very dog friendly (even came on the pedalos). The bar sold dog beer and snacks. So we spent a fair bit of time out walking. It was probably a 10-15-minute walk from our lodge to the "center." Also had a lodge with a hot tub, so was happy enough to relax there in the evenings.

It was good fun watching the planes go over and we walked along the side of the park so we could watch them take off.

Planes loud.

The shop is way to small for the complex

Too many caravans on the site for the amount of dining space

Ran by kids

Good if you just stay at your caravan without eating out or seeing the entertainment

There were lots of make builders / contractors staying next to us. They rent the caravans instead of hotels.

The photos are misleading.

Do you not use Trip Adviser?

We don't mind the planes and I'm used to it being a yellow belly and growing up nearby. I was concerned about the lodges being rented out to workers etc especially as we are going "off peak".

Thank you so much. I'm concerned that with it being very off peak that there won't be much entertainment put on. My 2 year old hates swimming, hates loud noises and water etc alright step son who is 6 would like the swimming and splash park so he shouldn't miss out. I just wanted to know if it was worth the money. It's £80 for family pass.

If you SS wants to swim then you will need passes. Unless your DH takes him?

You needed a pass for the restaurant and play area.

DurhamDurham · 19/03/2024 07:41

We booked direct with Away Resorts so the passes were included. Eight of us went and we had a nice time, our accommodation was lovely, right on one of the lakes with a hot tub etc.
The pool is nothing special, the splash zone was a complete let down and the shows were awful. The arcades were as expected; full of hyped up kids collecting tokens to exchange for crap prizes.
We had fun because we made our own entertainment but definitely wouldn't go back.

Yes I thought we needed passes for the swimming and splash park.

We booked privately so I'm not even sure we can get a pass? We are only staying two nights which is why I'm debating about the passes being worth it when really we couldske our own entertainment, wood hall spa, Boston skegness etc

If you want to use the pool or the arcades then you'll need the passes. Or you could save your £80 and find somewhere else to go swimming while you're away. It's a lot of money for what you get.

sophiesophiesophie · 19/03/2024 07:54

Thanks everyone. I'm saying more to not getting the passes and only using the accommodation and planning things to do nearby instead.

We've been a few times with young DC, although in the summer holidays.

You can buy guest passes even if you haven't booked with Away. We only really used them to access the indoor splash park (which our kids loved), swimming pool and lido.

There's also a nice farm park off-site about 5 minutes away that has inflatables, animals and a climbing wall.
