Has anyone been to a psychic?

For a bit of fun I am wanting to book a session with a psychic after my aunty told me of a wonderful story. In her 20s she met a psychic who told her she would meet a zoo keeper who was wearing yellow and she would go onto marry him. She thought it was funny but never believed it. About 10 years later at her local tennis club she got chatting to a man in a yellow jacket, a zoo keeper! They have been married for 30 years.

I would love to hear stories like this but also I am looking for a recommendation for a psychic to book from someone who has had an accurate reading. I'm not such a fan of tarot cards or palmistry but more someone who has a gift. Any advice?

Avoid them like the plague

They're all lying charlatans who practice cold reading.

Don't waste your money.

You could just ask mumsnetters here to guess things about you.
Give us your age, describe your appearance, accent and what you’d be wearing for the reading including jewelry.

it would be free too!

There’s a thread trending now where the op went to a recommended psychic after she lost her baby. The psychic told her she had all sorts of issues and wouldn’t have a baby for years. Now the op is in bits as she’s pregnant already and now she thinks this babies going to die too…

I went to one a year after my brother died.
I booked it under my email address so they had no way of knowing who I am.
She told me his name, how he died, his personality, the unusual hobbies he had as a child, phrases he used to say, his birthday, the colour of flowers I had just put on his grave, the relatives he was with in Spirit…..

Doing fertility readings for vulnerable women is so low. I knew a psychic who was advising a woman having an affair with a married man. She would see her every week, and was just feeding into the drama of it all. He never left his wife.

My mum said that Gypsies used to come to our door when we were kids, and lived in the countryside. They told her a few things that went on happen. They were lovely women & never set out to profit or do any harm. Mum was always kind to them.

This is amazing.

I saw a Psychic yesterday and she told me that I would see a post on Mumsnet from someone called rilind and to reply to their question saying, 'It's a load of old bollocks!'

rilind · 18/03/2024 15:04

I know alot of the time it is a load of rubbish but for my aunt it became true. so if anyone has a similar story to my aunt and has a contact I would love to give it a try for fun.

A friend of mine went to a psychic after her son had died by suicide. It gave her great comfort but I'm sure she was just given generic information that could apply to any bereaved parent. She was told he was sorry for the pain he'd caused her, but he was happy now, and at peace. She was told to look for a white feather which would be a sign he was with her.

idontlikealdi · 18/03/2024 15:13

What is with all the psychic threads over the last couple of days?

They prey on usually vulnerable people to tell them a load of bullshit.

I went to a psychic/tarot card reader when I was much younger. He was recommended by a friend who is very much into that kind of thing. During the reading he stopped and said the card/combination of cards indicated I may have been sexually abused as a child.

That was absolutely not the case, but I found it deeply upsetting and honestly for years afterward questioned my own memory and wondered if I could potentially have repressed memories. It was 30 years ago, but I still feel awful thinking about it, and now I’m older I’m pretty angry with him TBH.

So for me, visiting a psychic was 0/5, do not recommend.

That’s awful and really inappropriate. I wonder if he was trying to set you up for a series of expensive “therapy” sessions?

I think over the years Aunty has embellished this quaint little tale.

wallybobs · 18/03/2024 16:22

Yes and both times it was rubbish. The second time they could read so little about me she said I had a psychic ability and tried to recruit me 🤯

The first one went onto have a breakdown which was terribly sad but led to a lot of "didn't he see that happening" jokes which weren't that funny. But he was quite shit yet surprisingly popular.

SunshineSky81 · 18/03/2024 16:32

you might as well set fire to £20 notes and use the fire to waft smoke signals in the hope of contacting your spirit animal ancestors - absolute nonsense.

GoodlifeGlow · 18/03/2024 16:38

I went to one when I was 20 she told me that a significant man in my life would be call Nigel. 20 years on I can confirm I still don’t know anybody called Nigel. My neighbour went to this particular psychic and waxed lyrical about how amazing she was, I was not remotely impressed she said nothing relatable to me.

VaddaABeetch · 18/03/2024 16:47

I was away for the weekend with my sister. She went to see a ‘psychic’ & wanted me to sit in on her reading.

It was cringe full, he just made random guesses, threw out letters as names of dead relatives. Said stuff that could apply to anyone. My sister thought he was great!! She remembered him saying things that he never said.

Cloudful · 18/03/2024 16:47

I met a local ‘medium’ through a slimming club and out of interest went on his website to see what he charged (as he rocked up in a brand new Range Rover) he charges £1 a minute for a phone conversation with one of his ‘specially picked team’ which has entertainment only in the small print! For an hour with him 1-2-1 it’s £140!! I’m really in the wrong job. I do really think they’re just excellent people readers and researchers behind the scenes.

I’d never thought of that. But the guy was not on the money with anything. My friend (who had recommended him) saw him several times. Every time he would describe the man she was going to marry and said variations on, “you’ll be engaged within 18 months and married within 3 years” (timelines varied but were never long). I can confirm it’s now 30 years later and she has never been engaged or married. For her, he was definitely preying on her desire to find her life partner.

MariaVT65 · 19/03/2024 03:19

Yes I’ve seen 2, only because my mum paid for them, because she’s an idiot.

First one told me i’d marry a blonde man from Austria. I’m married to a dark-haired man from England.

Second one told me I’d have a long relationship with a guy I was completely besotted with at the time. He killed himself 3 years later.

donteatthedaisies0 · 19/03/2024 03:38

No I view them as people who profit from people's grief . Sick .

I'm not grieving just looking for fun predictions for the future

Do you watch Traitors? Both the US and Oz ones had psychics on them (or was it the UK one??). Anyway they were both completely shit and didn’t have a clue - amazing they volunteered to do it 😄

I predict that you'll pay a lot of money for a cold reading.

lilyboleyn · 19/03/2024 17:39

I went to see a very famous one, who does shows live on stage. It was lockdown so this person was offering Skype readings.

this person got it all so wrong I was embarrassed for them. Twenty minute reading, not one hit. It cost me £££ and I felt so abused afterwards, it completely cured me of any belief in psychics because if this really famous one couldn’t get it right, why would anyone else?

MuggedByReality · 19/03/2024 17:42

Of course not. Because I’m not a gullible halfwit.
