How long will a cough bottle keep once opened?

We have one that I think is about a year old, has two thirds left and is within the expiration date.

Safe to use or chuck it?

If it's in date it'll be fine.

What is a cough bottle? If this is cough medicine of some kind - look on the bottle/box for instructions, or google the brand. They'd probably say something like "once open use within X months".

Is the term cough bottle not used in the UK to refer to a bottle of cough medicine? It's common here in Ireland.

You learn something new every day.

Anyway it doesn't say anything specific in the leaflet.

I knew you were in Ireland when you called it a cough bottle 🤣 - I think we're the only people that call it that! In answer to your question I'd probably chuck it if it were for a child but if it was for myself I'd try it to see if it worked...

Probably forever or a good few years tbh. Any nonsense on the bottle about use within X months is code for 'throw this away and buy some more'.

I've had things like Baileys and tomato ketchup on the go for this sort of timeframe without it going off, so I'm fairly confident it's unlikely to go off.

Haha, honestly never knew it was only an Irish thing!

It's for me, I think I'll chance it.

We call it a cough bottle, my mum is Irish though!

It'll be fine, it's basically sugar / glycerin.

We've always called it a cough bottle too (Scotland) and in answer to your question in my house about a year after expiration or whenever it runs out just depends which is soonest...we've all survived to tell the tale.
