Kids’ TV you loved or hated as a child

For some unknown reason the theme song to Roger Ramjet has popped into my head which is really annoying as I hated that cartoon as a child. It got me thinking about other Kids’ TV programmes that would get me reaching for the remote - I could never get the love for Blue Peter or Jackanory but always felt that I should? Loved Dogtanian, Willy Fog, and Storybook International. 10yo me is still annoyed I wasn’t allowed to watch Grange Hill.

What were your faves/dislikes?

I loved Why don't you , The red hand gang , Grangehill, Fraggle Rock. Hated Blue Peter

Singleandproud · 18/03/2024 10:44

I still have the theme song of Poddington Peas and Rosie and Jim in my head 30+years later. I loved Zapp (?) the magazine show where they had the inflatable pool assault course games

I used to hate the Aussie programme Round the Twist, ridiculously catchy theme tune but I think it weirded me out.

Bluebellsinthewind · 18/03/2024 10:54

Loved Button Moon. Sadly I couldn't get my kids into it.

Absolutely loathed Black bueuty and Little house on the preiary?sp

Oh I forgot about the Red Hand Gang, loved it! I remember being mind blown that one of the children's real names was James Bond III.

@Singleandproud I think you must be younger than me because I haven't watched any of those and have only heard of Rosie & Jim. Feeling extra old now!

I loved Blue Peter

Anything I "hated" I did not watch

EveryDayIsASchoolDayOnMN · 18/03/2024 11:14

Loved Kizzy, Little House on the Prairie, Crackerjack and Record Breakers.

Along with so many other, I wasn't allowed to watch Grange Hill in case I copied their behaviour 😂

Hated anything animated, still do. And Blue Peter and How bored the pants off me

Newcrocs · 18/03/2024 11:23

Mysterious Cities of Gold I remember as being awesome but was probably rubbish 🤣

Hated Centurions and other similar animations that were so obviously aimed at boys

WinkyTinky · 18/03/2024 11:27

I would run home from school on a lunchtime to see the kids programmes on ITV, which at the time were Monday to Friday - Let's Pretend, Rainbow, Flick, Puddle Lane, can't remember... And then I'd run back to school for the afternoon. Seems mad now that we used to be able to do this!!

The main thing I really didn't like was TISWAS. Awful.

DoYouSmokePaul · 18/03/2024 11:33

I loved most things as was a total telly addict as a kid! Only thing I used to dread was “The Lowdown” which was a sort of documentary series and often followed serious topics, substance abuse, teen pregnancy etc which was no fun to me at the time.

I loved Blue Peter

We only had one television so sometimes stuff I hated would be on because my brother wanted to watch. It was still better than going to my room to do my homework!

Btw not a kids show as such, but does anyone remember a TV programme called Fax that was on at 5:35pm before the news for a year or two before Neighbours took over that slot? I vaguely remember a quiz called Masterteam on in that slot too. No one I know remembers these!

I loved Children's Ward, Sister Sister and Saved by the Bell

Oganesson118 · 18/03/2024 11:53

I couldn’t stand Blue Peter, I always found it so patronising. Also never liked Thunderbirds.

Most of the shows I liked were ITV ones I think: Sooty, Rainbow, Knightmare, Woof, Harry’s Mad, Fun House and Zzzzap spring to mind! Oh and I used to love watching Saved by the Bell and California Dreams with my older cousins.

Ridingthegravytrain · 18/03/2024 11:54

Loved words and pictures and dungeons and dragons

MamaWillYouBuyMeAWillYouBuyMeABanana · 18/03/2024 11:57

I loved the Gummi Bears and Raccoons and Shoe People and Poddington Peas.

I HATED the moomins, they always really creeped me out.

NooNakedJacuzziness · 18/03/2024 11:57

Liked - Wizzbit, Pink Windmill Show, Cheggars Plays Pop, Willo the Wisp

Didn't like - Screentest (too much plasticine animation!), Ivor the Engine, Bagpuss

Cattenberg · 18/03/2024 13:35

When I was very young, I loved The Clangers. Later on, I enjoyed Woof, a series called Patrick Packard (which no one else remembers) and a great but gritty show called See How They Run about a family who goes into witness protection. In late primary school, my guilty pleasure was The Sooty Show. It was quite stupid, but I secretly found it hilarious and would hurry home every Tuesday to watch it.

ThePoshUns · 18/03/2024 13:43

I also liked Crackerjack and Runaround.

CheekyPombear · 04/02/2025 01:41

The pink windmill show i loved Grotbags the robot and Croc.

Heidi wasnt frau Rottenmeir a bitc*.

Rainbow.
Jamie and the magic torch. Chorlton and the wheelies.
