Have you ever broken your favourite cup?

Mine slipped and smashed and it appears to now be out of stock generally

Do you get the same one or did another one become a new favourite?

I smashed my favourite cup this morning. It was the perfect size for my tassimo coffee so I’m a bit gutted!

Attryn · 18/03/2024 09:26

My children broke my favourite mug that I had had since my first job. I was gutted and still miss it. They bought me a new mug which is lovely, but it's not the same.

Unfortunately as a neurodivergent household a lot of stuff gets broken and it's usually mine 😭

Sunshineandrainbow · 18/03/2024 09:35

Yes, I finished Work at midnight, came home and made a tea, house was pitch black and I went to put cup on side unit so I could turn the light on. Cup missed the side and smashed on the floor, tea everywhere!!

Treat yourself to a new one.

I broke a load of my favourite plates at the same time. I had four the same and I've now only got one left. They were only from Primark but they don't stock them anymore. They were really nice and unusual and the perfect size for my younger kids meals.

HurdyGurdy19 · 18/03/2024 09:51

My daughter bought me a large Winnie the Pooh mug, which, despite me not being a WtP or Disney fan, I loved.

It got smashed, but luckily I sourced two replacements on ebay. My tea just doesn't taste the same from any other mug.

Smashed both of those, and was thrilled to find two more on ebay. I doubt I will be as lucky a third time, so I'm being ultra cautious now.

And also questioning my sanity at having porcelain tiles laid on the kitchen floor. Just asking for trouble.

Not me but my bloody mother. She did everything at 100mph and used to rinse everything under a running tap. I had been on an exchange trip to Germany and brought back a lovely mug with the word coffee in all different languages on it.
Needless to say, she was crashing around doing the dishes one day and struck it on the tap and it smashed. I was in such a state and all I got from her was "I'll buy you another one" Well of course she couldn't and I never forgave her.

She didn't learn and broke several other items in the same way.

My son bought me a beautiful large china mug for Mother's Day out of his own money when he was about 6 or 7. Loved that mug. Great size for tea and a beautifully thin lip for drinking.

I smashed it, along with a number of other "perfect" items (pasta bowls mainly!), when I was rushing to empty the dishwasher between work calls and accidentally pulled the top rack of the dishwasher off the rails.

I bought several similar types since but they've never quite been the same. The closest I got, I ended up buying 4 of them. We are down to 2 now!!!

Post a photo of your mug and we'll see if we can find a replacement !

Jellycatspyjamas · 18/03/2024 10:33

I have a lovely Denby mug for tea, it’s the perfect size and shape. I’ve broken it twice and managed to replace it through their clearance outlet. Last time I bought two just in case.

SorenLorensonsInvisibleFriend · 18/03/2024 10:37

I'm appreciating every day with my favourite mug as I know it's out of stock everywhere and can't even find a pic of it online. This will out me but it's MUM QUEEN BOSS, I found it at Clinton cards and it's the perfect size, thickness, shape and colour, the tea tastes extra good from it and super comforting. I love it.

Having said that, I'm also preparing for the new hunt for a new favourite when it eventually breaks. I have a lot of phases - wide, tall, thin, thick.. i love them briefly and then they go into circulation so maybe it'll be an enjoyable experience finding 'The One' again.

DeadDoveDoNotEat · 18/03/2024 11:06

Yes, I had one years ago that I loved, just a cheapy from Woolworths, but I bought it when they were closing down so could not replace. It was the perfect thickness and cosy shape, cream with red hearts on. DH glued it back together and it lives on as a pen holder, but isn't watertight so can't be used as a mug any more.

Current favourite is pic attached - comes very close to my old fave in being lovely to hold.

It’s the fine bone china cup from this illustrator, I can find a teatowel version

Looking at the image makes me feel funny as it’s means so much to me 😂

My youngest dd said she’d paint a replica so I’ve ordered a paint a mug, probably not necessary but I had to say yes to the kindness, she’s young. And I found a magpie version which I ordered so at least I’ll have the right fineness and shape

This is why my Harry Potter Mug from Thailand when The Deathly Hallows came out is at the back of my press... I cannot be trusted

TigerRag · 18/03/2024 11:22

I did, bought a new one and my dad smashed it. And yes he did replace it.

CrunchyCarrot · 18/03/2024 11:25

Yes, a lovely cat-themed one. Luckily was able to buy a new one. Prior to that one I broke one that couldn't be replaced. After a suitable period of mourning I found the current cat one.

Guavafish1 · 18/03/2024 11:27

I broke my dad's favourite cup which he had for over 15 years.

My mum has a matching cup in different colour!

FloofCloud · 18/03/2024 11:27

My husband broke my beloved Pooh bear mug he bought me 20 years prior to the break - I was really upset, so he trawled the internet and found the exact same mug! It came and as it was bone china it was so clear how it had broken, it was soooo thin!!! I guess after donkeys years of hot drinks and dishwashing it just wore away!
About 8 years later I still have the replacement - small Chip in it, but I can live with that! 😉

FastFood · 18/03/2024 11:36

Nope and no risk, because I only have enamel mugs.
I'm super clumsy so I've decided years ago that all my mugs, plates, dishes and bowls will be enamel.

I'm in Ireland and delivery is not available here but can you try this link for Amazon Europe and try for UK delivery?

I had 4 Laura Ashley wine glasses that were from when Laura Ashley had stores. I got them in the closing down sale. I adored these glasses. Was moving house and the bottom of a box fell through as mover was carrying it from lorry. all 4 smashed. They compensated us but i never found those beautiful glasses again. 😫

GloriousCat · 18/03/2024 12:38

Yes, about 20 years ago and I’ve never found another one as nice 😭

LemonySnickets · 18/03/2024 12:49

My DS accidentally broke my fav mug a few years ago. It was an old Take That one a friend had given me one Christmas. I liked it mainly due to the size and feel of it. I could have easily replaced it at the time but at £10 on eBay I chose not to. Think they were only £1.99 when it was bought for me!

I have a new fav one now which the kids got me for Mother's Day last year.

BeaLola · 18/03/2024 12:51

I broke my favourite mug and it's "spare" last month - I'm gutted - I and my late DM and I had the same beautiful mug from 20+ years ago - one of them had a chip but I kept it still -only I used it - they both. Toke within a week of each other - would love to replace but cannot find anywhere
