WTF is biting me?!

Surely its too early for mosquitos? I am the sort of person who reacts badly to insect bites but I'm usually safe until May. My arms and legs have these on.

Any ideas? We dont have any pets.

They come in ones or twos like this. Some can be a bit bigger but all that kind of flat whiter top.

Weirdly, I've woken up with what looks exactly like a mosquito bite on my face! It has been a very mild winter...?

HateMyRubbishBoss · 18/03/2024 07:38

Do you leave clothes , socks etc on the floor when you go to bed?

INeedNewShoes · 18/03/2024 07:40

I'm pretty sure I saw a mosquito last week. I commented to DD that it was far too early in the year!

I do but I dont tend to wear anything again except maybe jeans. What are you thinking?

Ffs well I get these things that are supposed to kill them, will crack them out and see if it helps.

I've been getting bitten for the past few weeks too! Literally no idea what it is, ruled out fleas, bed bugs etc.

I always react badly to bites too so hoping it's not going to last all summer!

I always get this when I leave anything on the floor night before even a sock, not sure if it’s mites or anything ; they’re not supposed to bite you but they do

for me it can get super itchy too and nothing helps but time

I’d say leave nothing on the floor x

Ok sounds like a plan, my other half is really bad for this.

There have been mozzies here since last summer! I killed 2 in December and saw a small one last week, but missed it!
I never remember the UK having so much of a problem with them until the last few years! We don't even live near a pond or stagnant water.
I bet you it's them! Get some Marmite down ya!

Woah there, I like marmite, does it repel mosquitos?

OP posts:
MoonWoman69 · 18/03/2024 11:23

It does! They won't come near you if you regularly eat it! They don't like the smell or taste. It's a total repellant. I spent 2 weeks in the Algarve bite free, the Marmite haters? Covered in them! 😁

Smartiepants79 · 18/03/2024 11:26

Both myself and my Dd have been badly bitten by what can only be mozzies in the last couple of weeks. Soooo itchy!!!

I wish this were true! Sadly not.

I love Marmite and eat it multiple times per week, and yet I am also the most mosquito-attractive person I have ever known, and always covered in bites. Even to the extent that I attract so many that everyone else I'm on holiday with doesn't get them....

MoonWoman69 · 18/03/2024 13:13

Well I've never known that before! Everyone I know never gets bitten having eaten it... Me included. (They don't like anything lavender either by the way. I made my friend a lotion with lavender oil in, she was like you, a beacon for the mozzies, didn't get one bite with the lotion!)

Believe me, I've tried lavender, citronella, garlic, DEET, all the things from industrial chemical to herbalist to woo and back again.

Unfortunately I just have skin chemistry that they love, and nothing I've found so far has worked against it. They even bite through most of my clothes if I keep to long trousers and sleeves, which I do.

Being underwater is about the only defence I've found that works, but obviously that's not long term sustainable... 🤷🏻

MoonWoman69 · 18/03/2024 13:22

Aww, that must be so frustrating. I'm all out of ideas for you then... So sorry 💐

I sympathise as I also get bitten through my clothes, def going to try keeping stuff off the floor as PP suggested as its something I've not tried.

Just got this bad boy at work!

Apparently Avon Skin So Soft (spray?) is a repellent but I'm not sure which version.

Metoo15 · 18/03/2024 14:56

I thought it was just me. Every time I go into the garden,a couple of days later I have at least two bites on my face. Their really itchy, they seem as if their settling down then start up again. I’ve tried all sorts, nothing really works.
Just started using roll on jungle formula now before I go out, but just noticed I’ve another one under my chin. 😡

I have heard this too but I don't buy mlm products. Its supposed to be the eucalyptus I have another product called Smidge to try.
