Come shoot the breeze (bries?)
In this calm and peaceful sanctuary
Of cheese.

A thread for those who have a mild extra mature obsession with all things cheese, including cheese cake.

Have got myself into a bit of a rut with evening meals. It's usually one of soup, pasta with meat sauce, traybake, or a roast dinner. I think food prices have something to do with it as I'm less willing to get something like salmon.

Any good suggestions for a non-spicy family? (We are all wimps.)

Tartiflette with reblonchon is my favourite meal. Kids love it too.

That looks amazing, and definitely right up my street. Unfortunately, my children don't like cheese-saucey things (I swear they are changelings). It looks like a perfect date night dish for DH and me!

I’m really quite oddly into Aldi Spicy cheddar at the moment. Had a very good Snowdonia cheese company baked cheese which was really very good recently.

If you love cheese can I recommend this recipe? We eat lots of chicken which is cheap. I made it the other night with a packet of tacos - 3 mins in the top of the oven, but you could do potatoes or anything else really.

I LOVE a macaroni cheese. Honestly the Laura Goodman book Carbs has got some bangers including one that is based on the 1990s Pizza Hut buffet which is just sublime.

It's all about hedgehogs here just now.

A round crusty loaf. Cut so it looks like a chess board. Across one way then the other. Pour some melted butter and garlic in and pull the squares apart. Stuff the holes with Brie, or mild cheddar or mozzarella. Pop in oven for five minutes.

Went to a dinner party last night, it was a TexMex theme.

The starter was a hot melted cheese dip with tortilla chips. Sort of like a fondue. Host told me he made it with a sauteed onion, little bit of chorizo chopped up very small thrown in, some garlic, some jalapenos, some paprika, then a ton of cheddar, red leicester and mozarella thrown in and all melted up in the oven. Bloody lovely!

These all sound great.

The hedgehoggy bread would certainly jazz up a soup dinner.

OMG I really want a hedgehog now. That sounds amazing.

(I'm supposed to be avoiding bread)

losthj · 17/03/2024 20:37

Yeah the hedgehog is such a hit I keep the breads frozen in case of unexpected visitors. Much more of a hit than crisps. The kids love it, can change the cheese. So nice.

I like pasta with creamy Stilton and broccoli and spinach sauce. Very quick and easy to make a super tasty.

GrouchyKiwi · 18/03/2024 08:35

I'm going to have to try that with a camembert or similar, NeedToKnow, as I don't eat blue cheese.
