Has anyone got a Malm bed (Ikea)

Looking at the malm with 4 drawers but it has mixed reviews. I want an upholstered really but can't find one I can afford with decent reviews. Our current pine wood simple design one (that I can shove loads underneath!) just collapsed after 20 years' service so do I just get another white cheap frame or is the malm with the matching drawers and sleeker lines any good ?
Thank you!!

Our spare bed is a Malm one, it was our bed for about 8 years until we moved and had to get a divan to fit in the space due to fitted wardrobes. The Malm does have a Simba mattress on it and it’s very comfortable, the drawers are really useful too. We’ve had the bed now for about 12 years and have no plans to replace it.

I have it and I am really looking to buy a higher bed. It's a little low for me and I've hit my shins off the corners a few times!

Ds1 (young adult) has the Brimnes with the drawers. The drawers are sturdy and hold a lot and it's lasted 6 years, now.

I have one without the drawers, it's coming up to 10 years old and still going strong.

The only issue is bashing ourselves on the frame as the bedroom is pretty tight but the frame comes in really handy to put things on when I'm being too lazy to move my hand slightly up to the bedside table.

I can't remember its name but we have this one and we love it! The drawers are sturdy and fit a decent amount in. My only slight gripe is all the bruises I get on my thighs from walking into the foot of the bed.

Excuse the junk, we're going on holiday tomorrow!

Had a malm for years before we moved countries and had to sell it. Super solid and looked new 7 years down the line. Also survived being dismantled and rebuilt.

Only problem was walking into the footend in the dark! But that was not really the beds fault.

Mogdidabadthing2 · 17/03/2024 19:29

I fear I will walk into it permanently but do this today anyway so it'll just be shins instead of thighs today ! 🤣. I think I'll go for it

We’ve got the ottoman one rather than the one with drawers but it’s been great so far. Had it for 7 years and it doesn’t seem to be showing any signs of wear.

Mogdidabadthing2 · 17/03/2024 19:42

And double or king? If we get double we can keep our ( decent) mattress but I've always wanted a bigger bed. No space for super king but king is only 13cm more or something tiny. Is it worth it?

We've had the king sized Malm bed for 4 years with no issues. I did take a while to get used to how low it was,but apart from that,it's been great.

Femalefootyfan · 17/03/2024 21:39

King size every time if you’ve got the space.

Our ds has a malm ottoman bed which is fabulous for storage

TheTigerWhoCameToEatMyHusband · 17/03/2024 22:11

I had a Hemnes for about 10 years it finally gave up after 4 house moves and replaced it with a malm if you put it together properly its fine. I don't expect as long out of it as it's not solid pine like the hemnes but I'm sure it will do us a good few years. Another poster has put up a picture of the hemnes bed.

Coolblur · 17/03/2024 22:14

I have one. Just make sure you cover the corners with the duvet and you'll avoid any bruises to your shins

skilpadde · 17/03/2024 22:15

I have a superking ottoman malm bed and I love the amount of storage space underneath.

Unlike an earlier comment, I find that with the mattress and topper, the bed is crazy high. If I were shorter I'd either need a step, or to launch myself onto the bed at night.

That's the Hemnes - the same as mine, and I love it too!

We have the Gjora which is ridiculously high: high enough to get plastic storage crates underneath! It's sturdy and robust. We moved from 140cm Malm to 160 Gjora and it makes a surprising amount of difference. The Malm did 4 house moves over 10 years and was going strong, but we wanted the extra space.
