No kitchen for several months!

So we're going to be 'between' kitchens for a few months and need some ideas for minimal washing up dinners!

We have an airfryer and will get a camping stove. Any tips or tricks or meal ideas?

Get a microwave and a mini fridge and set up a mini kitchen somewhere else, with kettle and all. I'd just try and minimise the work by relying on microwave soups, rice etc, rather than trying to keep cooking standards up. You can do it though.
We were without a bathroom for nearly a year thanks to building issues that dragged on and on. Just make life as simple as possible otherwise the stress will drive you nuts. Obviously no kitchen and no bathroom are different, but having to cope without a major house facility is totally doable OP.

Been there. Ready meals (although you get fed up of them) and paper plates are key!

Oh blimey we did this for several months too .. It was the washing up in the bath that nearly broke me rather than cooking.

We went through 3 table top hobs! They kept blowing up cos we had sooo many things plugged in 😆We had a George Foreman Grill and a slow cooker too. Air Fryers weren't a thing as far as I remember, but I bet that will be a huge help now.
Try to be organised. I had a couple of the IKEA unit with the squares as our shelves and tried to have places for everything.

Just be resigned to eating lots of pasta and rice based dishes and talking /dreaming about what you'll eat when you have your kitchen back! It was well worth it for us...but I won't do it again!

We didn't have a kitchen for 4 months during our extension last year. Rather than a camping stove, get a single induction hob - they aren't expensive on Amazon or from Ikea. Then you can do pasta, fry stuff or make sauces.
Get air fryer liners - that was brilliant to save on washing up
I think the only thing that anyone felt deprived of was pizza - everything else we could cook

Great ideas thank you all. I think the biggest thing I'm concerned about it a lack of running water/sink downstairs. We have a small cloakroom but no chance of fitting the kettle underneath it. Wondering if we can set up a tea station in the bathroom??

I have a new kitchen starting tomorrow
I've made a tea/ coffee station on a bedside cabinet with a kettle plugged into an extension lead
I have a wet room where I plan to wash up
Microwave on another bedside cabinet
and I plan to make sandwiches/ rolls on a tray on my bed!
Ready meals and paper plates for most meals but I live alone so you could use a slow cooker
Frozen jacket potatoes in microwave etc
Embrace the chaos and imagine your new kitchen!

For water I would grab the biggest containers you have and ask a kind neighbour if you have one or cheapest bottled water if not

This is normal for me.
you can put the fridge freezer almost anywhere, living room, hall etc much easier and cheaper to stay with the normal one.
Can you make an outside sink? And then if you have a table as well there’s somewhere for the camping stove although a gas bbq with a gas ring gives lots of cooking options

Talkinpeace · 17/03/2024 16:10

We did a lot of cookouts - not so much BBQ as finding ways to cook on the BBQ often using old ammo boxes as ovens

AtleastitsnotMonday · 17/03/2024 17:51

Do you have an outside tap?

nokidshere · 17/03/2024 18:48

We used a hot plate to cook on, had lots of fish & chicken! And we used paper plates & cups to save on washing up
