Just that really - 2 teens and DH, the area looks lovely but I can't work out where to stay. Want the beach but also want to somewhere with some bars and restaraunts in the evening. We won't have a car so will be getting a train either into Toulon or Hyeres

TIA

Title totally wrong - meant to say Hyeres area of France!

We stayed in Hyeres this past summer. Definitely one of our highlights as it was far less busy and touristy compared to Nice.

You'll need to rent a vehicle as the city/region is very hilly and things are spread out. We stayed in an Airbnb near the old town (the area around Tour des Templiers) and would drive out to the beach, the supermarket, other parts of the city, etc. I personally wouldn't stay near the beaches in Hyeres as they are isolated and not near anything - one is actually by the airport so planes fly overhead. If you'd like to stay somewhere with a sandy beach but still be able to walk into town, Carqueiranne could work. That beach is quite small though.

Lots of options for restaurants but not sure about nightlife - it felt pretty low-key and more the place where "nightlife" is sipping wine on the deck of your holiday home! We had a fabulous meal at Restaurant La Jeannette - they have a patio in the square of a hilltop village and it was the most intimate little dinner spot.

Not sure if you would like information on activities?

Thank you, and kudos for managing to work out what I meant from the title 😉

We’ve decided on Sanary Le Mer which is the other side, more towards Toulon. It looks lovely but now I’m worried it’s going to be a bit quiet for DC.

I hate choosing holidays 🙈

Toulon itself was quite nice for a day (was on a cruise) visited the naval museum. Nice bustling market too. Can't comment about nightlife as we sailed at 4pm!

Hi @40pdf how was your trip to Sanary sur Mer? I'm looking at the same, and have similar concerns re it being a bit quiet.

@adventuresonline were just back and I’d really recommend. Not quiet at all, in fact pretty busy, it’s a really popular resort for French families and the night markets were great for my teens. We visited a few of the towns nearby too. Great place to visit.
